I recently reinstalled Windows and upgraded some of my hardware. And now it seems like all I have is problems. Sad I know some of them are decoder issues, but some of them aren't. What are the recomended decoders?

I don't really know where to go from here, thank you in advance to all who can help!

Athlon 64x2 4400+
3.25gb of DDR2
1tb hard drive
Motherboard w/ onboard 780G video
HVR-2250
PVR150MCE
WinXP Pro SP3

I have the Cyberlink and Purevideo decoders installed. I was using PureVideo exclusively on my old box with no issues. I used whurlstons post for integrating the registry settings for the cyberlink decoder.

1) Live TV: Sometimes, works but often not. I get a black screen and then after about 10-15 seconds it kicks me back out to the menu.

2) I have ripped DVD's to the hard drive and it will play them with two issues. (Old box had no issues) If I use PureVideo the top half of the screen is color and the bottom is black and white. If I use the Cyberlink then it displays fine, but once I hit enter to play the video I lose ALL remote functionality. I cannot stop, start, pause etc. I am using a harmony to the MCE IR receiver, I even tried the MCE remote and it did the same thing.

3) I have the 2250 configured as 2250a-1, 2250a-2, 2250-1 and 2250-2. The "a's" denote the analog tuners. Along with the PVR150MCE that I still have in it, I can still only record 2 analog shows at a time. When two are recording it shows its using the 150 and one of the 2250a's. If I tell it to record another, it says there is a conflict. How can I make it "see" both analog tuners on the 2250 board?

4) Recorded TV is working well. Any channel above 20 looks great, anything below that is all fuzzy. Using the same splitter and feed cables from before. Could this also be a decoder issue?

I have zipped and attached logs after trying to record 3 shows at once in hopes that it will help.

Again... Thank you!

I dont know about those tuners but I do have a 780G. Which ATI drivers are you using? After a recent rebuild I found the gigabyte ones based on 8.11 seemed the best. Can record TV and play it back? or are the tuners the problem?

Tuners work ok (except for not being able to use both analog tuners on the 2250).

I look at drivers right now.

It looks like you have both set up as device #1. Change one of them to be device #2

sweet.... how did I miss that? Smile LoL

Now if I could just figure out the whole decoder issue.

Thanks whurlston, I'll look at it when I get home tonight!

I've done some more reading... and from the sounds of the 780g chipset is crap for video.... Guess I'll toss a video card in her too.

Your video should be fine. Reproduce the video playback problem and then attach the Pvrx2.exe.log and Pvrx2.exe-native.log.

The 780G is perfectly fine for video. Mine plays SD mpeg2 perfectly and 1080i HD H264 more or less perfectly. Both with hardware acceleration. Also plays Bluray 1080p perfectly. I use cyberlink PDVD7.3 mpeg2 and H264 codecs but the ATI mpeg2 one also works fine and that is free from the ATI site. CoreAVC works well for H264 content too. Mind you I'm running Vista and EVR with mine.

I had an x1300 lying around, so to test last night (before I read your posts!) I tossed that in. Most of the playback issues were solved. I still have issues playing ripped DVD's though.

I switched from VMR9 to EVR (I'm on XP) and ripped DVD's work now. But playback is choppy at times and recordings don't look as good. They are also choppy at times.

I tried to do a search the ATI codec and couldn't find it. Sad

Try the latest MPC-HC standalone MPEG2 filter:

http://www.xvidvideo.ru/component/option.../gid,1971/ (click "I Agree")

The particular file you want is the "Mpeg2DecFilter.ax". You may need to add "MPC - MPEG-2 Video Decoder (Gabest)" to the <SupportedDecoders> and <SupportedDVDDecoders> in config.xml

Note to sub: I can't remember if I asked you to add this filter to the list for the next release or not but it works really well. It's based on the MPV filter.
