Fellow GBPVR'ers
i had my whole system working with comcast and now i switched to fios and i cant get it to work.
i have happauge pvr 1600.
With comcast i took the coax from the wall and plugged it into my computer. With fios they had me get a digital converter box (i believe). So i have coax in and coax out to my computer and two audio cable outlets.
I tried plugging the cable into my computer like i would normally do and run config and update my epg but every time i try i get an error. Is there something i am doing wrong?

or do i need a different capture source?

You'd need to supply the PC with a feed split before the converter box. The coax out of the converter box only cables one analog channel RF modulated for pickup on an old TV (no digital channels on this coax).

Do you have the patches from the survival guide?

Sub's right, you need to split the coax, and plug one line into the HVR-1600 coax and the other into the STB. Then connect the STB to the HVR-1600 using S-video and RCA audio cables. You'll also need an IR blaster running from your computer to the STB. Then you'll need 2 capture sources, 1 digital (coax in clear QAM) and 1 analog (s-video in from the STB).

I have FIOS (QIP2500 SD STB) and the HVR-1800. It works great, except the only clear QAM channels on FIOS are the SD locals, HD locals, and some other channels like WGN, ION, etc.

i do have the patches.

So i have to run a splitter from the cable coming from the fiber optic box and split it to the computer and to the digital box. Then get rca cables from the digital box to the computer?

I have an ir blaster that plugs into my computer via usb. How would i plug it in to this little digital converter? It doesnt have any inputs into it.

Its of the one that i attached.

You don't plug the blaster into that box, but put the emitter "eye" onto the box where the IR sensor is - so you can use the PC to change the channels on the converter box, and record using the RCA

By using the splitter for the RF, you will already get the digital cable channels, and the analog RCA connection is optional if you want to record whatever is coming from your digital converter box.

For the 2 input setup you need to set up a new capture source for the analog side of the device, as well as your digital.

so if i switched from a digital to RF channel it would switch capture sources?

Also when i split the cable do i input the signal directly from the fio box to my computer but would it be plugged into the digital or analog tv spot on my happauge 1800.

when i set it up on the computer do i just do it as 2 separate capture sources ? (under config)?

Edit: sorry i have the 1800 not the 1600 i have the fm tuner which i rarely use

not an expert with this sutff, but I would say it goes like this:

RF cable from FIOS --> 2way-splitter --> Digital Input on HVR / RF Input on Converter Box.

Then you can take the RF out from the converter box to your TV, and the RCA to the HVR analog input.

GBPVR would select a capture source based on whats available, and it starts at the top of the capture source list and works down until it finds the one it wants. (live TV works from the bottom up)

Yep, just set up 2 captures sources in config - one analog & one digital. (and set up the IR blaster for the analog source, and you'll have to train it to use the remote commands for the converter box)

If you want to watch whatever is on youre converter box without watching it through GBPVR
(just tune into the channel of the digital converter box, and then change channels on the box from then on)
