I wanted to start a thread to ask SUB to review this and consider trying making improvements of the DVD playback. The most complicated thing is that it allows you to select a codec and that's when problem starts.

For now I haven't been able to succesfully play DVD 100%. Sometimes it plays ok, other time it plays only audio.
As an example I reformat my XP box and currently using Gabest and PVD9 codec. I will proceed to put the logs soon, but one thing is that in comparison I used Media player Home cinema and that apps is opensource and plays the DVD without a problem when GBPVR has any trouble playing one.

Please sub help us on this... Thanks.

Attached please find the logs.

Problems dvd playback:
1- Open GBpvr, hid DVD menu to play a dvd, does not play video. Using Different codecs.
2- Plays video, but then dvd menu does not work.
3- Plays video, but the image is not good quality (This is more of a video codec, anyway mentioning it here).

Do you have some "on the fly" DVD decoder installed (like AnyDVD)?

You are on XP, so there shouldnt be problems with DVD playback, but Gabest MPEG decoder is not very good one (navigation problems, no DXVA or NV12 output).

Here is my setup: (using SAF, AnyDVD, ATI HD4770 + Cat.9.6)

DXVA works, navigation works and picture quality is briliant.

Note:
Navigation doesnot work correctly on homemade DVDs created by Womble software - no idea why, but i think the problem is on Womble side, becouse same DVD authorized in TMPGEnc DVD Author works OK.

No on the fly decoder. I tried using gabest, base on a recomendatino of whulston. Apparently doesn't work....
No offense, but I cheered a lot when I saw your SAF package, but for me it created more problems than what I have. Tried twice and got same results.

The MPC/Gabest decoder is the only one that allows DVD menu highlighting to work for me, which is why I recommend it for DVD playback. All other video decoders (ArcSoft, Cyberlink, ffdshow, etc) just show the menu but not which option is selected.

Well, if you have problems with SAF, why you dont report? I can fix them, but if nobody report, i cant do anything Sad

You are on nvidia - acording to some nvidia users, there is no DXVA working for them. In SAF setup, you can select software decoding for MPEG2 - try it.

I will send you PM how to unlock SAF

After SAF setup, run GB-PVR in window and connect graphstudio to check, if you have same graph like i posted. Sometime, even if you selet some decoder, other is added to graph.

BTW: On the fly decoder is preaty important. It decode protected DVDs in realtime and provide DVD navigator already decrypted data. Any DVD can also silent your DVD drive and it is able to change refresh rate acording to inserted DVD type (50 vs 60Hz).

After SAF install, there are two files created on your system root, you can post them to me, so i can check for possible problems.

On picture i posted, "Nastaveni" is hightlighted, working fine here. Tested on 3 machine i have, i even working on stupid Intel integrated GPU. All is XP based.

On the begin, i was facing exactly same problems, most of them was coused by wrong codecs setup and Vista (EVR). That is one of reason why i no longer using vista.

I'm using Vista/Win7 with EVR which is why none of the others worked for me. Upscaling DVD video to 1080p is pretty trivial for my video cards so the MPC/Gabest filter is the best in my setup. A different setup may require a different configuration.

Dont you have such artefacts in video when using Gabest MPEG2 decoder (tested on v.1.2.1179.0)?
They apear on end of tacks, like warning message ends and nenu apear. That was one of reason i stop using Gabest decoder.
