Like the title says, I'm not a dummy, but man... I feel like I've taken a couple steps back for sure!

I've got a Windows 7 box with a PVR500 in it and 2 HDHomeRuns on the network (getting HD via QAM). I got GBPVR setup and works fine on that box. I can record 6-8 things at once (since the HD is via QAM, I can get stuff on the multiplex, very cool).

My issue is that I want to use my NMT (Kaiboer K100 and eGreat e34a) as a front end to the GBPVR box.

Either I'm overthinking it or the dummy guide is way out of whack... especially when it talks about a USB stick.

In any case, I installed via that installer, skipping the GBPVR install. I have a share that I can see from my other windows computers (all Windows 7 at this point).

I have mapped a network share on the NMTs to this location without issue. They are mapped as MEDIA:pvrmc (or whatever the share name is, I'm at work now). I can go to the network share and go to the 4th icon and launch the .htm file. No matter what I select I immediately get the "operation failed" error message.

One thing that's bothering me is that when I do the network browser from the NMT (either of them), I don't see anything but NFS server. I don't see the homegroup that the windows 7 boxes are in. I'm thinking that this is part of the issue.

Please help!

I'm not at all the person who knows much about the NMT but I can say that I had a similar problem when I got one (not sure if it's the same message you get) but I had not created a Guest account and set up sharing in W7 properly. Have you done this?

I turned on the guest account (it's disabled by default).

I turned off password protected sharing and disabled windows firewall. I'm sure I missed something in here though... and I think you're right, that this is where I'm missing something.

Little things do seem to make a big difference with the NMT and I feel like a complete newb every time I play with it but have always gotten awesome help from someone here.
Stay tuned, your help is coming. Smile

I overlooked this in one of my first attempts, did you make sure to leave the mvpmcx2 install checked under the gbpvr install option? you should have a mvpmcx2 file in your share with no file extension...

I'm on XP, but occasionally my workgroup fails to show up on the NMT. Some combination of rebooting the server and/or NMT usually fixes it.

Yes I left that checked :-)

Hi, sorry you are having troubles. I have no idea if the USB method works, it was user submitted.

As for the share, you can verify if it is set up properly with the cacls command

ie: cacls c:\mvpmc

should show the Guest account with at least R access. Check the html and the cgi file too.

As for the network problem is your GBPVR server on a different sub-net from your NMT? That typically won't work.

I'll check that when I get home.

The NMT isn't on a separate subnet, but there are a couple switches that have to be traversed to get from one to the other. Big house, poor planning on my part when I wired it, too hard to rewire now.

I'm going though three switches 1x1gb/s and 2x100mb/s without problems, so it's not that.

Ok, to make the USB config work

1. On your PC insert your USB drive

2. Create \mvpmc on the USB drive

3. Copy these files from your mvpmc share to the USB \mvpmc folder

GB-PVR.html mvpmcx2 startmeup utelnetd

4. Copy usb_a.cgi to the root of your USB drive
