Quoted from announcement thread:

My wife is away for a couple of days so I figured it was time to upgrade. That way if there was a glitch, I would have time to fix it before she got back. LOL.

Everything went smooth for the most part.

I did have a minor hickup when it came to playing back my recordings. They always wanted to fill the screen in auto. The videos played fine at the proper aspect ratio. I tried all different codecs with the same results. Then I decided to try live tv. It worked fine, so I recorded a show. It played fine when it was done. However, all previously recorded shows always play at full screen now. It is like they lost their aspect ratio information. I can watch them by selecting pillar box using F7, but I don't always keep my keyboard out in the tv room. Its more for support use. Has this been an issue for anyone else and is there a fix so my other recordings will play properly without having to F7 when changing from a pre-upgrade recording to a post-upgrade recording and back.

I have attached the logs as requested.

thanks.

I havnt changed anything that would account for this difference. I also havent seen other reports of it.

Can you zip and attach your config.xml?

So let me get this straight - new recordings are playing with the correct aspect ratio when in 'auto' mode, but old recordings arent? I really cant think of how that would be possible. The aspect ratio is stored within the MPEG-2 file, not outside of it, and upgrading the version of GB-PVR wouldnt have effected this data in old files made in the past.

You understand correctly. New recordings are playing in proper aspect ratio in auto. All old recordings play full screen in auto.

I don't understand it either. It doesn't make sense.

To be honest, I've got no ideas on this one. Sorry.

Code:
2009-09-01 22:12:38.609    VERBOSE     - C:\video\gbpvr-recordings\TVshows\CSI Crime Scene Investigation\CSI Crime Scene Investigation_20090820_22002300.mpg
2009-09-01 22:12:38.609    VERBOSE    getSetting(SaveGraphFiles)
2009-09-01 22:12:38.765    VERBOSE    setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2009-09-01 22:12:38.765    VERBOSE    video resolution is 720 x 480
2009-09-01 22:12:38.765    VERBOSE    unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame

Have you played that same recording in another application, like Media Player Classic? What ratio does it find embedded in the file? Or you can use MediaInfo to find out what the video DIsplay aspect ration is, that is stored in the file.

Code:
2009-09-01 22:12:38.609    VERBOSE     - ffdshow Video Decoder
What version of ffdshow are you using?
What codec in ffdshow are you using for MPEG-2 support? (libavcodec or libmpeg2)
Have you tried another decoder like the MPC MPEG-2 decoder?

Are the new recordings also mpeg containers? Or are they dvr-ms or ts? Any difference in the channel being recorded?

Just giving ideas to look at, not sure that anything will stand out.

I checked the source file. It is 4/3. It plays that way in media player and I was playing the recordings with the ffdshow OSD to show the input and output aspect ratio. I have tried several other mpeg codecs including purevideo. All gave same results. I switched the renderer back to VMR9 so that I could get a graph file that I could play. It played as 4/3 like it should. Since PVRX2 connects using this very graph, it should play the same way but it doesn't. I don't know what is happening to cause a loss of the aspect ratio information when playing in PVRX2, especially since it only affects pre-update recordings. All recordings are mpeg.

Its not like its an end of the world issue. I can still play the files and use F7 to correct it, and all new recordings are fine. Its just the abundance of my wifes archived recordings that are affected.

Hey sub, I appear to be encountering the same issue when I try to play mpeg video from the Video Library. I have tested the file with the same decoder in other programs as well as checking with MediaInfo, and the file does indicate the proper ratio
Code:
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE    Graph contains the following filters:
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - Default DirectSound Device
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - Video Renderer
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - ffdshow Audio Decoder
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - MPC - MPEG-2 Video Decoder (Gabest)
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - GB-PVR Flow Status
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - MPEG-I Stream Splitter
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE     - \\lorentzen\shared\TV\Doctor Who\s03e23 The Ark\s03e06p1 The Steel Sky.mpg
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE    getSetting(SaveGraphFiles)
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE    setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE    video resolution is 352 x 263
2009-09-02 00:27:13.843    VERBOSE    unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame

I hope to test with 1.3.11 when I get a chance to ensure that it worked fine in that version.

@athomas, are the pre-update recordings being played via the Recordings page, or via the Vide Library? Not sure if that would make a difference or not.

Nevermind me guys, looks like those files show the same issue in 1.3.11 too. I think my issue is separate and has to do with MPEG-1 streams...more testing to follow.
