Hi Sub,

I just bought one of these hdtv recorders thinking it is going to work with gbpvr but in horror it's been a nightmare.

I have tried reading through posts and read about patches etc... so do these patches apply to the latest version on pvrx2?

I've installed all the software and drivers on the disc I have a revision E and only have system default in the h264 drop down.

I have no picture or audio from the recording and really hate this lump of coal....

I downloaded the latest drivers with no luck.

I have a dual core on an 8600gt and video is not smooth using the arcsoft software theatre and I am only recording to the rca video in until I get my hd terminal in a week.

I thought the 8600 decodes hd in hardware?

was the hdpvr a bad choice? does the thing work in gbpvr?

Thanks for any help

I havent released any patches on 1.4.7 for HD-PVR. Any patches you've been reading about are likely from 1.3.11, in which case they'll already be included in 1.4.7.

It sounds like you dont have an H.264 decoder installed. Older versions of the TME software used to install the ArcSoft H.264 decoder. I think newer versions also install them, but the .ax files arent registered by default, so you may need to do it manually. I cant tell you any exact details though, because I've not used TME myself. Other HD-PVR users might be able to point you in the right direction.

thanks so much!

I will find an older version and see if I can get picture and sound..

when you used the hdpvr and played back recordings did you get what appears to be dropped frames? looks like it's around 20fps and really sucks haha

thanks again for the tip

No. The recordings played back nicely for me. I thought you got no video though? or are you talking about in TME?

yes in tme they are jerkey.

ok I installed these older ones
http://codec.kiev.ua/codec/ArcSoft_Total...CODECs.htm

and when I went into config to check enable the codecs I got an error about missing dlls so I copied all the dll's in the extreme dir and pasted them into c:\windows\system32 and I have video and sound working Big Grin

jerky video but it is much better. Not sure why it's not smooth for the horspwer I have....

I noticed if I record a show and stop it and record another for a few minutes that the hdpvr only records the odd other show and the other times it's just a black screen...

live tv seems to work but if I open and view repeatedly it only works half the time...

So this hunk of junk is unreliable for recordings?

what a bummer.

geeze I just lost video in the recording and I only have sound even ones that worked a few minutes ago are blank screen

wt @#$@ back to square one...

is there a way to view the recording settings to increase or decrease the bits? my pvr500 had them in gbpvr but there is nothing for the hdpvr in the config. only option to choose video source.

rebooting pvrx2 did not bring the picture back...

argh

To be honest, I dont know. I dont generally use it, since I dont have a need for it in my environment. You'd probably have to check what other HD-PVR users have to say.

You'd can tweak the bitrate in the analoghd.ini file.

Thanks sub very much appreciated. I got video back on a live recording. I have a feeling this hdtv is going to be a major headache for me hah.

sorry sub I just realized something strange.

I am seeing some .ts and .mpg recorded from the hdpvr. I was under the impression this thing does not record mpg? em I wrong or have I spooked the software into picking favorites? the file labeled mpg has no picture in pvrx2 and the file .ts plays in pvrx2

both files play in vlc player

any idea?

I had a few dropped frames when I first set mine up. I switched the video rendering from VMR9 to VMR9 Full Screen Exclusive. Haven't had a problem since.

As for the ArcSoft codecs, it seems that (for me) if you install the older version first and then update to the later versions, you get the new codecs and they remain registered.

Hi Sub,

i have confirmed this.

enter the tv guide and select a show to watch and the recording is .ts

select the recording show in tv guide and cancel. the red bar in guide for me does not change (or takes a long time).

exiting guide and entering again the red bar is gone.

Select the same show and record. The file is now recorded as a .mpg extension.

do the same procedure and the file is recorded as .ts.

This happens every time.

To follow up.
You can select a movie to record. cancel after minute and choose another movie and cancel and choose another movie and cancel and choose another movie and cancel and you should have one mpg and 3 .ts. no specific pattern

i have live tv working but it is jerky and I think it is due to the box not designded as a tv tuner and thus not really able to stream the feed. In live mode there is no files for the feed in the temp folder. Hmm I gues the arcsoft software does stream the feed too since you have to press record to save a file...

ahh anyway this is what I have found. The pvr seems to work pretty good in schedule recording lastnight and playback is very nice now but still appears to be around 25 fps...

Here are some stats
HDPVR
Balls of fury recorded at 720 x 480 1:34 minutes - 1,060 megs

PVR500 mpg
loch ness terror - recorded at 720 x 480 2:00 hours 5,616 megs
converted to avi - 624 x 352 2:00 hours 1,376 megs

the converted avi movie and the hdpvr movie both look pretty much the same in picture quality with hardly any pixallation in fast scenes.

The hdpvr kicks ass since it does everything while recording so the hard drive works less. I think I love it heh.

I will have an hdtv terminal box in the next couple days so can't wait to see how hdtv recordings look.

EDIT:

I was looking at the settings
[SETUP-Main]
AudioInput=auto
;AudioInput=Audio Line In
;AudioInput=Audio SPDIFDigital In
;AudioInput=Audio AUX In

Bitrate1080i=9000000
BitratePeak1080i=13500000
BitrateMode1080i=VBR

Bitrate720p=9000000
BitratePeak720p=13500000
BitrateMode720p=VBR

Bitrate480i=3000000
BitratePeak480i=5000000
BitrateMode480i=VBR

Are there any hidden settings we can ad such as ps2 and xbox formats? Did a search in the net but cannot locate what others pvr config files may look lik.
