Hi all,
I've Been running gbpvr fine on my pc along with other background progs and decided it best to move them to a spare pc and make a server out of it. gbpvr 1.4.7 has been installed on the server, working 1.4.7 standalone config/db has been copied over and the db paths corrected. Thought all was well but neither client/server option is working fully, here's what I get:
  • File Sharing
Recordings work about as fast as running in a standalone setup. Live TV loads in also about the same time as a standalone setup but has stuttering playback (seems to me as issue when writing to the file server side and reading client side at the same time).
  • Streaming
Live TV works but with a huge delay when starting/changing a channel, recordings look like they are loading but only show a black screen and pvrx2 has to be killed.

Any ideas of a fix?

Thanks!

Streaming mode is now kinda working for tv/recs/videos, there is still the long delay but I'm at a loss on how to solve that unless there is a way to get file sharing mode working with mpg files (CyberLink mux).

It's wierd at times!.
I use both here - streaming for all my PC's. Agreed, streaming is slow changing channels with live TV, but I don't use that much, if at all. I've just tried filesharing here in the house and it is a little stuttery but I have to say, not a lot faster at first display of a channel. I've not had a problem paying recordings though with streaming.

What multiplexer are you using are you using? Streaming is ok and is working for recordings now but file sharing is loads faster for me if only the live TV was watchable.

Using this one. I always found 1307 to be the best for me.

Code:
GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:

Found: Microsoft DVR-MS Mux

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: c:\windows\system32\mpgmux1307.ax
VERSION: 5.0.1307

Found: GB-PVR's TS Mux

Thanks, I was using a slightly older one but have changed it to that ver and it seems to be a bit more reliable but overall get the same result. Looks like streaming will have to do for now.

Since file sharing mode is faster for me with the only downside in tv stuttering is there a way to have file sharing for recordings/videos & streaming for tv only?

Just to throw a spanner in the works, have you tried ts-mux? sub and broadcasters seem to be moving in this direction. I've changed on my test machine, but have left the main server as mpg for now.

ISTR that auto-switching between filesharing and streaming has been brought up on the wishlist in the past.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have changed from mpg to ts-mux and now file sharing works so it's an improvement in speed. Recordings are like they should be on a network share but there are delays like live TV and I can't see why. It isn't as fast as a standalone setup and network/cpu usage is very low...is there a delay setting in GBPVR when in a client/server setup?

On the server when you view LiveTV - its possible you have it set to preview mode, meaning that the data is passed from the card to the display, without writing a file to disk - obviously not an option for the client as it needs to read the recorded file.

You may be able to correct this issue by increasing the client mode Live TV Pre-delay in the config.xml on the client:
Code:
<ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay>2000</ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay>
I believe 2000 is the default; it's specified in milliseconds.
