Hello,

What is the best video card to use with gbpvr? Both cards I used have had problems. My one card sometimes does not record shows unless I select "Restart recording service". My other card sometimes messes up the sound and all I hear is very loud static. Can anyone recommend a decent card that will work great with GBPVR?

Thanks!

Where are you? what's your source? cable, antenna, satellite?

Irrespective of all that ... it is likely that most recommendations will be for Hauppauge. I wouldn't buy anything else ... unless it was realy really cheap ... and it was so I did.

I'm using a Hauppague HVR-1600 card in my system. It works fine, but I am only on OTA.
IBM P4, 3Ghz with 1GB RAM
500GB Storage (on this one), HVR-1600 capture card
ATI-1050 256MB, and more as I think it up!
OK, I finally bought a HD TV. Glad I had some stuff recorded to watch!

I am using the HVR-1600 as well, but they have been around for a while and technology is changing, and mine seems to be fussy about signal strength. I have to have a splitter to add 3.5dB or else my signal is too STRONG!!! Ha! I thought of a HVR-2250, but... what is new now? I have read a user switching from a 1600 to a 2250 and does not notice any difference, and I am not suprised really.

I seen a lot of people mention the HDPVR, but that is digital only and I still need both types since channels below 74 can be recorded by a analog input straight to the 1600. So far I am happy with the 1600, but think I could use another card to double my digital recording needs, and am undecided as well what to get.

What interface do you want to use? PCI, PCIe x1, USB? That may help on the suggestions.

I have a 2250 that is working perfectly well and a 1600 that is in another system that is very finicky. Not much luck with QAM. When I played with OTA, the 1600 seemed fine.
My HDHR is also stellar. I'm running W7 x64.

Be aware that the HD-PVR requires a set top box from your cableco the has a component output. It will not record directly from the cable or OTA.

Yeah, the HDPVR is analog component capture. The HDHR (HDHomeRun) is probably what you mean when you say it's digital only.

Another data point - I am using an HVR-1600 for analog cable and ATSC OTA with GBPVR. That's working well for me. The few QAM channels to be had here are nothing more than what I get OTA and it was easier for me to setup. FWIW - same card also works well with Win 7 MC in the same box.

But, if I were to buy a second new card, I think I would opt for the HVR-2250. It looks to have four tuners built-in (two analog, two digital) uses the newer PCI-E x1 slot, is going to be "officially" supported under Win 7.

The HVR-1600 seems to work fine in Win 7, even if it's not offically supported yet, using the Vista drivers.

The PVR150 is probably one of the earliest cards that gbpvr supported and mine has been working well for years, I would have thought most if not all of its problems had been worked out. I'd see if there was another driver available for it from Hauppauge before throwing it out.
