After having HIP and net2hipsend working perfectly for several weeks to change our stb channels, I did some major mucking around trying to get an ASTC stick to work on my wimpy hardware.

Afterwards, HIP was broken. It errored out, with some weird memory access message. I uninstalled/reinstalled HIP, relearned the remote codes, checked the config, all OK. When I do a test blast, I get a "chirp" from my system, but no blast (and no, I don't have my speakers hooked to the IR blaster port Smile)

Just curious if anyone has seen (or heard) this, or have any suggestions on how I might proceed.

Thanks!

maybe firewall issues?
also, i changed the default port in newest versions also, used to be 8080 but now is 8084, as 8080 interfered with streaming on EWA...[VLC]

try it from command line to see if any error messages pop up...[sometimes firewall can't ask if you want it to get thru as you can't see prompts when run from rec service]

also try blasting from HIP interface to see if any probs there..

It happens when test-blasting from the HIP interface, so it's nothing to do with net2hipsend.

FWIW, I'm almost sure it's my MB. I decided to reload my OS (XP) from a USB stick, and the stick was not recognized... although this is the way I'd loaded it originally. As the MCE beanbag is USB, coupled with this new USB weirdness, I thinking it's a MB problem. Now I can shop for a new, decent one! Mini-ITX....Atom...Ion...Yumm!

I had the exact same problem using a dct700. I would learn the remote through hip and got that sqweel sound.

I never got it working and I even tried a spare emitor thing.

anyway I gave up and a couple weeks later I bought the HDTV terminal and went to hip to learn the remote codes and it worked. Nothing was changed.

Not much help but I suggest trying to learn another remote and see if the squealing stops and go from there.

No speaker hooked to motherboard so I too thought something was hosed.

Like I said it is working with the HDTV box DCT6200

Awesome, TVshowman! Thank you very much for your reply. My chirp/sqeal also happens without any speaker hooked up.

I'll try another remote to rule out MB badness...

Thanks, George

No joy. Even got a new MB to rule that out.

A sad coda. Only IR blaster port 2 on the MCE beanbag works with this SW/HW combo. And the chirp... it was always there. I did not have speakers hooked up when I initially set everything up. The good news: everything works!

I am now slinking off, to bury my head in sand.... .
