Hi all,

Can I get some info on any cards you are using by Avermedia that "WORK" with QAM and analog. I am trying to decide on replacement of HVR-1600 and HVR-1800. These do not tune clear QAM on Windows 7 64bit. I also have the HVR-1950 and it will tune perfectly on the same two cable drops and two different PC's but the 1600 and 1800 won't. Also the hi-def Toshiba tv will tune on the same cable drops that these cards won't.

I'm afraid of the 2250 now because of the problems with these and the reviews on NewEgg about the 2250.

Thanks
pBS

i have a m780 and it works great....NEC encoder chip...
Aver was one of the pioneers of QAM for windows mce...they had an addon for MCE that would enable qam in media center, a first if i'm not mistaken...[possibly HDHR beat it]
and so far all their tuners are qam capable..from what i've seen, they all use the tiny digital tuner chips that are similar to what are in tvs...

i don't have cable [dish] so can't speak to QAM's actual use, but al i've read says they're as good if not better in some cases than the haupp offerings...certainly been very stable for me..
was one of the first after the haupp. devices to be supported for qam in gbpvr..Smile

Thanks for the response pBs.

Hauppauge has my two cards now as of yesterday on RMA and I don't know what the outcome will be once they look at them. I was planning to buy a new card this weekend of some type and was going to get a 2250 but the clear QAM tuning concerns me based on some of the posts I've read.

I'm in the Nashville suburbs and actually have Charter cable. Most of my channels are the older analog variety but I do get the locals through clear QAM, about 10 total. Great for football.

Anyone else using Aver cards to get clear QAM cable channels without a settop box?

I have read one other post here that states QAM is possible with the avermedia duet, i am looking at getting the avermedia duet, and if you happen to get this card would you post back if it works with QAM, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Will do imagn.

I'm trying to control myself until I hear back from Hauppauge and just use my HVR-1950 but who knows. I got two machines with empty slots just begging to be filled.

Just a follow up on this. I did buy the HVR-2250 and it work as it should. Hauppauge also sent me replacements for my HVR-1600 and HVR-1800. The 1800 also works now as it is supposed to. I get about 10 clear QAM channels on each. I plan on putting the 1600 in my wife's machine this weekend and if it works, I'll be in business with a 1600, 1800, 1950, and 2250. Gee I wonder what all I'll watch?
:-)

BTW Hauppauge is great to swap these cards. I've had them over a year and was just to lazy to do anything about the clear QAM problem. Once I emailed them, and sent them in, they mailed me two replacements without problems. Also looks like the 1800 and 1600 are going away on their site as options to buy.
