New install and about 2 days of messing around with stuff to get this working. I am almost there. One of the last problems I am having is the taskbar will not go away. This is a Windows 7 box.

There are several articles on the internet about the "Always keep taskbar on top" not being in Win7 anymore. Autohide is a really ugly option. All the fixes I found on the internet suggest a code change that is beyond my skill level or comprehension.

Anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Edit: Appearantly this is a Windows 7 bug, and a major one at that. It affects almost all programs including full screen games, full screen videos (even inside Windows media player) and most other apps that run in full screen. Googling "Windows 7 taskbar reserve space", "Windows 7 taskbar always on top", "Windows 7 applications under taskbar" and "Windows 7 taskbar on top of video" will show more results. I guess we will have to wait for Microsoft to fix this one by adding code back in for the taskbar to properly reserve the correct amount of space and for MS to add back in the feature to "Always keep on top" . This one is almost enough to make me want to go back to XP or Vista. Microsoft devs claim this feature is by design? I will just have to use the autohide for now.

Edit 2: After playing around with this some more, I have found that GBPVR seems to be triggering this bug. Once I close out of GBPVR, I can check and uncheck the Autohide button with an apply in between and the applications no longer appear behind the taskbar. As soon as I open gbpvr, the bug is back. I was also able to reproduce this on another computer that I have setup as a client. I will keep playing around with this some, maybe something with the renderer.

Edit 3: This is definitely related to the PVRX2 Renderer. If I have it set to EVR, the bug is present. If I change it to VMR9 Fullscreen, the bug is gone and I no longer see the taskbar. I will leave it on VMR9 Fullscreen for now. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

I have had this happen in XP. If you can see the taskbar icon for PVRX2 and right click it, I think there is a "keep on top" or something in the right click menu. You might have to run a non-fse windowed session once to be able to do this, then set it back to fullscreen. Maybe that will fix it?

Not me - do double check that you don't have a tick in 'show in windowed mode' on th efirst page of config. It threw me at first because I had always used VMR9FSE before, and the tick in windowed mode had no effect. But when I installed on 7 and tried EVR, I couldn't work out how to make GBPVR proper full-screen! Since unticking, I have not had a problem with the task bar staying on top...

This happens to me with Vista, about once every six months. However it usually last about a day (probably a restarts to fix it) so I just use un-click the 'keep taskbar on top' for a day or so.

But since this option is missing in the windows 7...

This option was removed from Windows 7. Many people are complaining about this. It was available in every version of windows since Windows 95. The removal is a Microsoft "Feature" and was "By Design"

Checked and rechecked.

Restarted at least a half dozen time trying to fix this and other things.

... Exactly.

It is no big deal. It seems much more responsive in VMR9 mode after a couple minor tweaks now. I am content to leave it where it is at.

Thanks.

If Windowed Mode is checked and you double click the top bar of the window, this only maximizes the window and does not switch it to fullscreen mode. To enter fullscreen mode, press <ALT>+<Enter>

I have several ASUS EEE PCs and I really need this feature ON, since it allows me to use the netbook screen more efficiently /it has a really small display/. M$ will push be to turn back to WinXP. I wonder if there's a registry record or something else that could enable the program windows to show over the taskbar?

Happy Days!
DisableTaskbarOnTop.zip
I’m not sure if anyone has already posted this or found a different workaround, but I just came across this fix and it’s working great for me so far.
Supports both 32 & 64 bit versions of windows 7
