I've been using the Pinnacle 801e and the Hauppauge HVR-850 in 32 bit Win7 for awhile now with no problems, but I just got a new computer and upgraded to 64 bit, and now neither of them will work.

The Pinnacle 801e crashes the entire system and requires a forced system restart when scanning for signals.

The Hauppauge hangs when scanning for signals and then does not allow me to cancel or kill the process, then hangs when trying to restart the computer, requiring a forced system restart. They do this in both GB-PVR and Windows Media Center, so it's not a GB-PVR problem.

I've tried every driver I can find, including the drivers that Windows automatically install. I'll list the drivers I've found online--

Pinnacle:
http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/...mePCTV.htm
http://www.pctvsystems.com/tabid/62/defa...fault.aspx
http://www.pctvsystems.com/tabid/62/defa...fault.aspx

Hauppauge:
Every driver on this page, being the "WinTV driver and WinTV v6 application update," "To install the latest driver," and "WinTV installation for Windows Media Center" (which is under the "Windows Media Center install" tab).

I've emailed the PCTV tech support regarding the Pinnacle, but if history says anything at all, they'll blame me for the problem, do nothing to help, and will know far less about this than people on forums. Which is why I'm here.

Ideally, I'd like to get these two sticks working, but, alternatively, if anyone has a recommendation for a card that is guaranteed to work in Windows 7 64 bit (and in GB-PVR, of course), I would entertain such suggestions (I'm using a desktop now, so PCI cards will work).

Reproduce this, then post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll see if anything stands out.

Well, I don't know what I did differently, but the results were a little different this time, though still not successful. Now, instead of hanging, I get a message that says "GB-PVR Configuration has stopped working." And it closes without causing as many problems.

I uploaded the logs here--

http://anorman728.pbworks.com/f/config.exe-native.log

Thanks.

Update: Add this to the list of drivers I've tried for the Pinnacle. I found it [url=http://www.fixya.com/support/t1364361-pinnacle_pctv_pro_stick_801e"]here[/url] This is actually the TVCenterPro software that's the native recording software of the PCTV stuff, and includes a driver. I tried scanning with the 801e in this software with slightly different results. It scanned and found two analog signals, then scanned and found radio signals, but then froze when it came to the digital scanning. It has not frozen my entire system, but it might when I try to kill the process. So, analog is working, in theory, but digital is not.

Still no progress at all on the Hauppauge.

Unfortunately there isnt an obvious cause shown in those logs. It looks like it encountered whatever the problem was fairly early on, and never even got as far as starting the device.

Someone else may have some ideas, but nothing really springs to mind for me after looking at your logs - short of suggesting a Windows reinstall and hoping your experience is more like other users after that.

Code:
2010-01-10 16:41:09.400    VERBOSE    [1]    getValue() loading new key/value into cache: /settings/BDAPsiScanWaitSeconds
2010-01-10 16:41:09.400    VERBOSE    [1]    getValue: /settings/BDAPsiScanWaitSeconds : 15
2010-01-10 16:41:09.400    VERBOSE    [1]    getValue() loading new key/value into cache: /settings/BDAPsiScanStartupSeconds
2010-01-10 16:41:09.400    VERBOSE    [1]    getValue: /settings/[B][color=Red]BDAPsiScanStartupSeconds : 1[/color][/B]

That time value is way too short. Try making it 3 or 5.
