Hi all
I was delighted yesterday when the Nova S2 HD eventually turned up from Amazon - installed it - recognised it no problem then disappointed when it found absolutely no channels. Tried it in Linux - found it - correct drivers - still no channels.

I was running it on a LNB with quite a long line so I put it on another LNB which had a line that only ran a few metres from the dish. This time it found 48 channels (this is on a Sky UK dish) in total, most of them encrypted. The few it found that weren't encrypted I tried to play (in its own software) and it just said "no signal".

All very odd. Anyway after much playing about I submitted a return with Amazon last night as I think the tuner was defective.

Now I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs looking at loads of different cards but keep coming back to this one.

How well does this card work for others? I'm hoping if I buy it again, it'll just be a one off.

I know a friend who has a freeview card with 7MC and he has to rerun the scan twice to get all the channels occasionally - is this the same with satellite or should it get them all first time?

Cheers

This is a dumb question, but I assume you have something else connected to said LNB/dish that does pick up channels fine?

Hi
Yes I ensured that all the cables worked correctly with the Sky box. All boxes reported excellent strength and quality.

I've got a Hauppauge HVR-4000 and a technisat skystar2 and never had problems with them showing channels. Scanning for channels can be a problem alright. The HVR-4000 scans fine, but the skystar2 can be a bit hit and miss. Get a scan.cache file from here (many users will post one if asked) and see if GBPVR will play them... That said, your problems do sound more serious. However when the next card turns up I'd give this approach a try. I'm sure there are several Nova S2 users here that should be able to give a view on how well it scans (or doesn't).

This is common with Freeview terrestrial as some stations are daytime only and some evening only and share slots.

With satellite I don't think this is the case. I have a few assorted satellite tuners and they all seem to works as well as each other, although no S2 card yet. I'm fairly sure some on here are using the same card as you with no trouble, so hopefully you just have a duff card.

Well I've reordered the card so I do hope Amazon issue the refund or I'm stuffed - though I'm sure they will!

Get delivery on Tuesday so will try again then.

I have a Nova HD-S2 and it works fine - all channels are found in a single scan (apart from ITV HD which has to be manually added to the scan.cache). It also works in Windows 7 / Media Center.

Well got the replacement card today and it has picked up more channels than on the Sky box so everything seems ok!

I've installed the MDAPI filter and tried Hadu and Flycccam without success though. Hadu works brilliantly all the time it is playing the encrypted channels - the moment you try to exit the program or swap to an unencrypted channel, it crashes. Sad

Might have to make a post about it later see what other options there are.

Smile

Anyway GBPVR is lovely.

Well just tried acamd and it connected to cccam perfectly. It's a little slower than hadu but seems perfectly stable.

Looking forward to finding some cheap MVPs now. Smile
