I see the forum has changed. I know it was down for a bit yesterday but the message I got was that there was a problem and I thought it said something about using backups. Anyone know if this is temporary or our new home?

No, its not temporary.

What happened was... We've been using a vbulletin leased license, paying yearly. That license was due to expire about 25th March. Unfortunately late last year the vbulletin guys released vbulletin 4, and did away with the leased licensed scheme, and the only option I had available was purchasing vbulletin 4 license or moving to different forum software entirely. Argh! Personally I'd have preferred to stick with vbulletin 3.8.

After a string of emails reminding me my forum license had only a few days remaining, I decided I had to proceed with the upgrade. Yesterday morning I took it offline for the quick upgrade to vbulletin 4. Unfortunately something went wrong with the database upgrade scripts, resulting in a broken database, and I had to restore from backups (which thankfully have been working all this time Big Grin). At the time we lost about a day of posts.

The thing that bothers me the most about the new version is the status icons next to the posts. The new post icon doesnt stand out enough against the other posts (and they're too big). I'm looking into whether these can be changed.

Looks like it's another good reason so pass the tin around. I don't know how much this costs are if you even want to mention the cost but to anyone reading this, if you've not donated before, please consider doing so. There's always awesome help here and regular updates. You will get your money's worth.

I notice at the very bottom of each page there's a "Quick Style Chooser" with '--vB4 Default Style' as the only choice. Perhaps there are more styles to be had and installed?

Where's the skin expert when you need him ? (oh yes, the smiley collection is a bit naff as well).

Anyway well done sub for what must have become a frenzied and unexpected upgrade whislt you are in the middle of an imminent new release yourself.
