By the sounds of it, we're gonna have to stick with GBPVR for now.
Did I read right that N-PVR muxes everything into a .ts stream internally
(and thus would have to recode to a mpeg stream for the MVP output ?)

Dang, and I spent all that time making that 'any video' > mpg file converter.

One constant thing in life is change, they say..

That's the way I read it. Easy use of MVP's is out???

I didn't test on an MVP but I think the .ts restriction is on LiveTV and direct Recordings. With post processing you might (hopefully) still be able to play mpeg-ps files

Deciding what to do about the MVP was very difficult. At the end of the day I decided it wasnt worth compromising on the capabilities of NPVR, and creating myself lots more work, just to provide 100% support for MVP.

Instead, I opted to provide limited support for the MVP, and focus on the future. This device is now getting very old, and was becoming a poor match with the rest of the technology we have to deal with. I initially added MVP support to GB-PVR in 2003, when everybody was using analog capture devices. Skip forward to around 2006 and the majority of users were starting to switch to digital tv, and the MVP was not up to the playing many of the recordings that people were starting to make (HD MPEG2, AC3, H.264, HE-AAC etc).

There is still limited support though. You can see the UI, schedule recordings, play recordings (albeit via an on-the-fly-transcode). For those that are in a heavy MVP environment, or analog only, may choose to add a PostProcessing.bat file to auto convert their recordings to .mpg files (which is a quick remux, not transcode), so the on-the-fly-transcode doesnt have to happen. This leaves live tv as main thing missing.

Hopefully you guys can understand why I made this decision. Unfortunately 2003 is a life time ago in terms of technology, and I'm not even sure they still make the original MVP, so it was very hard to justify the effort that would be required to support it as well as GB-PVR did.

Nice Post!

I think for most technology does move on, and I would like to think that I am not against change....

Change is needed to drive the future in to today.

Just for me, MVP's may now be 7 years old but they work, and very well, particularly given the support from Martin.

The fact that I can sit in my garden, water my plants and plug in an MVP with a screen and watch the Grand Prix (today in Canada) is beyond brilliant.

Everything has now gone to VoD (Video on Demand) but for me there's nothing quite like the live thing, are people really only after pre-recorded stuff these days, has my life been in vain? Surely the world cup is still watched 'live'? Not any more with an MVP and GBPVR?

Er you could always do what I did (even though I couldn't afford it) & replace the MVP's with NMT's.......they are actually a rather big step forward when it comes to viewing pleasure.

I love LiveTV via GBPVR (and expect to when NPVR catches up) too, I just use an NMT. I don't think replacing the MVP's @105 a pop with refurb'ed A110 is too much ask for a few more years of functionality.

Unfortunately it is what it is. All I could offer the MVP was limited support. Live TV on the MVP will no longer be possible. Sorry.

Personally, I'd look into the NMT devices. They provide the same type of solution, but are a much more capable device.

Guys guys guys!

Perhaps I should have attached my signature?

Running a PCH A110 in my 'living room' using Martin's NMT Install and Jaggy's quick web interface.

Well you did!? 'cos you saying you dun it!

For me hard to justify a quick whiparound with Mrs Steeb to replace all devices in the house... 3 Rooms, 3 NMT's.... When me got the MVP's already.

I think you're right Martin, long term but I invested in the MVP's for now, and they work....
