In GB-PVR you could select the dongle to be downloaded into the Hauppauge MVP, and mine worked best with the MVPMC dongle. There isn't such an option in settings on NPVR - suppose it is in some configuration file somewhere.
The MVPs don't seem to work properly with NPVR, and I think they are downloading the Hauppauge dongle. Certainly don't get the MVP screens, there is no sound on the playback, and I can't exit once a video has started playing , maybe other problems too
Could someone post me a childs guide to getting the MVPs running MVPMC to work with NPVR

You can specify the dongle file using the <Dongle> setting in Config.xml

MVPs are only partially supported in NPVR though, and this is unlikely to change in the future. The MVP was great device back in 2003 when GBPVR first supported it - back when everyone was using analog tv tuners. Its seven years later now, and technology has moved on, with digital tv taking over the world. NPVR is designed aroun these new technologies, and does it's recordings to .ts files, and streams .ts live tv. Unfortunately the MVP cant play .ts files or streams natively, or handle the 1080i/720p AC3 MPEG2 in the US/Canada or H.264 broadcasts being used in many other countries, so its of limited use in NPVR.

Thanks sub
A bit of a downer this for someone who uses GB-PVR almost entirely through MVPs
No more support for GB-PVR
MVP can't play the recordings
NMTs seem very pricey - can't see any in the UK under about £150 - 3 NMTs @£150 = £450 minimum

I think if you're still doing analog and/or standard def digital then you can still use the MVP's for everything but LiveTV. The recordings can be re-muxed to MPEG in postprocessing.bat; look at the thread about TS and Comskip - there's a couple of ffmpeg command lines in there that do it in a minute or two. I admit I've never used a MVP, but this is what I understood from reading the bits in the release threads about NPVR & MVP's.

No. There is no GBPVR/NPVR client compatible with the MediaMVP-HD. This device is not a relative of the old MediaMVP, other than by name.

Lots of people in the states have them, but yes you cant walk into a store and buy one off the shelf - you have to order them.

While they are available, I think NPVR and GBPVR users will be hard pressed to find better value then the older Popcorn Hour refurbished A110 players @ $105 http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/i...efurbished While you can't walk into Best Buy do Americans benefit from really reasonable shipping. It might take an hour or so to install, your alternate will be building a full client HTPC at least for now. When the PCH's are gone who knows what the options will be?

Exactly my problem too Steve, I'm running 3 x MVP's. (Does that happen to be you selling 3 MVP's on EbayUK currently!) Even if not you selling them, this is the issue, MVP's now fetching diddly squat so selling them to help fund NMT's hardly dents into the amount of investment needed, NMT's still expensive, even 2nd hand I wouldn't expect much change out of £100. At £300minimum that's still going to take me a long time to save the funds (impossible to justify to Mrs Steeb who doesn't see why we would need them as "But the TV works fine already with those Hotdog' thingeys......"

Out of interest anyone, is it now safe to say that NMT's are fully supported in N-PVR (comskip, pause LiveTV, skip forward etc?)

Cheers

Sub and others above.
Thanks for the clarification on the MediaMVP-HD. I guess the only solution will be buying a PCH. THe compatable ones are the A110 and A200?

Steeb... I have the same dilema in convincing my supervisor (aka wife) on buying any of this stuff. Though once I get it she loves it!

Thanks.

steeb, we get your position, but really responding to a 3 month thread is bad forum etiquette.

Since you are one of the prime contributors to beta testing thread on mvpmc with NPVR I don't see the point of this question either. Navigating live TV and playback on non-mpeg files still remain outstanding issues for some.
