Is there a secret path to success for DVD playback in NPVR?

I have tried two decoders so far with different disappointing results:

Microsoft DVD-DTV Decoder (Windows 7) - menu navigation works (that is, I can see and move the selection highlight), but it plays all movies with Closed Captions enabled (not subtitiles); NPVR doesn't seem to be able to control Closed Captions

ATI MPEG-2 Decoder (from the AVIVO download) - menu navigation doesn't work, but at least it doesn't show closed captions

Guessing my way through the DVD menu is better than having to see closed captions for the whole movie. I'd rather use the Microsoft decoder though for TV, it seems a little better than the ATI decoder.

Does anyone know how to disable closed captions when using the Microsoft decoder?

Try playing the DVD with the Microsoft decoder and post the npvr.log and I'll take a look.

In this log I played a bit of a DVD (a VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive, not a real DVD but I don't think that makes any difference). After it started and I saw the closed captions I tried disabling subtitles just to be sure; it was definitely closed captions though, it described the sounds and music too.

If you right click on the window, does the subtitles have a 'Disabled' option listed, and does it do the job?

It does have a "Disabled" option, but clicking it does nothing (I tried doing exactly that during the playback log I posted). I can't test it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure when I tested it in the past and tried selecting one of the subtitle tracks, I got both the subtitles and the closed captions. It's definitely closed captions that I can't turn off, not subtitles.

It does indeed. I have DVD navigation working with the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder, and no closed captions. Thanks!
