Hello,
i've tried to figure this on my own with no luck so i figured i would come here and ask for help. I was trying to get GB-PVR to work all last night with no success, so i came here and i downloaded and installed the latest NPVR release, now i tried to find the settings tab or the configuration tab, but i had no success. My problem is I don't know what to do now, i tried to follow GB-PVR wiki manuals last night, but for some reason it still wasn't working. Anyway I need help in getting the whole program up and running. I have created a channel guide account so that's taken care of, anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. My tv tuner is a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 850.

P.S. Sorry if i posted this in the wrong section i'm a complete newbie so sorry.
Thanks so much again

Start NPVR, then right click on the screen to bring up the menu. Select Settings and start having fun. Smile The GBPVR wiki should help guide you as many of the settings are similar, screen shape, directories, etc. The capture source setup looks different but does essentially the same thing - selects a tuner, configures (scans for) the channels, sets up a program guide, etc. Read the announcements thread for NPVR and the search the NPVR support forum for help on specific problems.

Thanks for that piece of information, when i went to go scan for channels it came up with this error. Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Then it gives me the option to look at the details. Thanks for the help again

did you install the VS2008 and DirectX updates provided in post 3 of the 1.5.19 release thread?

http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post377422

While I'm not certain that will explain your problem, I notice new NPVR users tend to miss those.

If that doesn't solve things, you'll need to also post your logs. On Windows Vista & 7, they'll be in c:\users\public\npvr\logs. In XP it's something like c:\documents & settings\all users\application data\npvr\logs (but I'm not sure of the exact path, I don't have any XP machines any more).

Well i installed the updates provided since i did not install them, went back in and began to scan for channels again still the same error message came up, i also noticed that it said the quality said 0% which might be a problem i should also add that i am plugging my Tv Tuner into a 4 in 1 usb extender (hope that isn't a problem) anyway i will attempt to post the log folder here. Got the logs attached
Thanks for any help you can provide yet again

Hmmm... you're getting a Direct3d error, but I'm not sure what is causing it or whether that is causing the error in scanning problem. Tell me more about your config: what video card is it, what tuner model, what windows you're running? You're trying to tune from an antenna, right?

oh, i see another problem, do you have any sort of firewall running? do you have the NPVR Recording Service running (NRECORD.EXE)? I see in the logs that the recording service started up but didn't do anythign else, and then I see when NextPVR.exe starts up it starts it's own internal recording service because it can't see NRECORD running.

Ok to answer your first post i can not find where the video card info is, all i know is that the video card is just a cheap one that came with my acer aspire one laptop. The Tv Tuner is an Hauppauge Win TV HVR 850 Model 1200, I am running windows xp sp3. I am trying to tune in Cable. It will work through WinTV, but it is crappy so that's why i'm coming here, anyway in reguards to your second post I'm almost positive i have windows firewall running along with Kaspersky's own firewall is probably running as well. Scratch that for some reason my windows firewall is off, but my kaspersky firewall is on.

Also the NPVR recording software doesn't seem to be running either There is something called NRecord running in the task manager don't know if that's anything or not.

I'd agree with johnsonx42, the logs look like your firewall software is getting in the way. I dont know anything about the kaspersky firewall software though, so I cant tell you how to configure it. Basically NextPVR.exe is unable to talk to NRecord.exe.
