Hi to all PVR experts out there!

I want to get rid of my old VCR and decided to build a PVR from scratch using gbPVR. I also decided to use one Hauppauge 150 (or several 150's in future) and the Xcard for hardware-supported output to my TV set (in order to keep my CPU cool ;-)

I want to install the PVR next to my TV set in the living room so I don't want to use an extra monitor - just the TV set.

Now my questions:

1. What happens if I want to view a format the Xcard has no hardware-support for (a JPG for example or an old, not supported DivX)? Do I need to use a extra graficcard connected to the xcard?

2. I read a lot about suspend and hibernate mode. I guess it *IS* possible that the machine sleeps in hibernate mode, wakes up for recording, and goes back to hibernate mode afterwards, right? But what kind of hardware (mainboard, power supply) is necessary for that?

3. I will use pre- and post-show padding in order not to miss any parts of the recorded show. Is it possible to cut the unnecessarily recorded parts off the show for archiving the file (out of gbPVR frontend or using any other program that can be seen on TV set)?

4. Is it possible to burn things onto DVD or CD (out of gbPVR frontend or using any other program that can be seen on TV set)? What about authoring?

I would really appreciate any answers to my questions in order to not spending money or time on not working items...

Greetings, Alex

just plug in any gfx card with tv out to a extra tv out port on your tv, so you can do maintance and play any unsupported files.

you cant do this within gbpvr, i dont know of any programs that could easily do this with a remote.

you can burn recorded shows to dvd using "my videos" all via a remote. and you can burn mp3 playlists to audio cds with "my music" all from a remote.

Thx, but unfortunately I have only one (don't ask ;-) scart-jack on my TV set. My TV should be mobile - with a tail of 3 cables (power, antenna and scart) - and I don't want to add more cables to this tail.

So the gfx card shows the windows desktop and the Xcard shows gbGPR screen and videos, right?

Yes; that's possible and works great!
I don't know what kind of hardware is required; i guess it should support power management (APIC, APM).
On my Pundit-R it works; except for the onboard-audio. I put in an extra audio-card that does hibernate well.

Strange: as far as I know in hibernate mode only selected pieces of hardware are power-supplied (via STB-wire of power supply), such as mouse or modem or NIC. If any of these pieces decides to wake up the machine, it sends a signal to the mainboard to wake up the rest of the crew.

How can the gbPVR software wake up the system when the system sleeps (and therefore gbPVR is not running)?

Is anybody able to explain this to me?

One of the devices that can power up the machine, is the BIOS. In the BIOS, a wake-up-time can be stored.
GB-PVR sets the wake-up-time to the next recording.
