I used GBPVR for several years until my hardware got so inadequate that I moved over to Linux. I am now in the process of "refreshing" my server and am going to move back to Windows. I will be running Windows Server 2008 Standard on a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz with 4GB of RAM. I have 2 Popcorn Hours (one A-100 and one A-110). Previously, I had mvpmcx running via network shares. I do not have hard discs in the PCHs. I do have thumb drives at my disposal. I know there have been many changes with the software package and am curious how the mvpmcx experience is now. I was looking at the stickies, but they are several years old now (maybe I should check the Wiki). Any suggestions/advice on setup/configuration?

Welcome back Wink
Forget GBPVR and look at NPVR it's much improved replacement. PCH support is as good/better as it ever was and support of digital broadcasting is much easier to initally configure. There are far too many improvements overall to post here. Just install it and try it out.

Thanks Smile

Would it be best to connect the PCHs through a network share or from a thumb drive?

Either works fine, with Windows Server it may be easier to connect from a thumb drive then you don't have to worry about permissions etc. on the share directory. Also if you are thinking about putting the server to sleep you need to do it from a thumb drive to be able to wake it up anyway.

I use an internal drive (USB stick would be as good, if not better) for exactly the reason above - being able to wake the server up.

I know the installer package requires the Guest account to be activated. I always disable this account. My system and security background just won't let me leave the account enabled Smile

I was using a specified user account in the past. I'm guessing I can still do that....right? Any links to getting everything set up with thumb drives? I feel like a noob again Smile

Hi hakras, the experience with NPVR and mvpmcx2 should overall be much better than with GBPVR, sub and I made several changes under the hood to navigate accurately and handle problem mpeg files.

NMTInstall2 does not require a Guest account, you can untick the option to create the Guest share if you wish.

To install to a USB drive place the drive in your PC and in the option to install mvpmcx2 select the root folder of the drive for the output.

Good luck.

That sounds great. Since I have 2 PCHs and will use 2 USB thumb drives, do I copy the contents from one thumb drive to the other?

You can copy the drives if you want, NMT specific info is read from the NMT config that you store in flash.

I finally got NPVR up and running. I am ready to install NMTInstall2.exe. I downloaded it from a link on one of the wiki pages. The modified date on the file is 7/3/2011. Is this the latest install?
