Firstly I would like to say fantastic timing with this release and some great added features, I really missed the search plugin. My wife was just saying how complicated it was having to use a third party player to watch bluray's.

After upgrading to 2.1.4 and installing the LAV Filters 0.29 I find that playback through the video plugin works fine with bluray images but when I trie to play a disc I get upto the first 5 seconds of video, no audio and then it freezes. I can ESC back to the main menu.

I tried making the bluray drive available through the video plugin which also suffered from the playback freezing.

I have attached my NPVR log file incase it provides any clues. Any suggestions ?

NPVR doesnt really play any active part in blu-ray playback, so there isnt really any settings you can tweak. I do wonder if this problem is to do with the 'ffdshow DXVA Video Decoder' that directshow is choosing to use.

You could see if you get the same behaviour by running graphedit, selecting the 'render media file' menu option, and point it at the the index.bdmv file, then hitting play. They are exactly the same steps NPVR does.

Thanks for pointing me in right direction Sub. Not sure why this worked but after removing SAF 5 codec pack the Bluray playback was working. I also had to re-register the Monogram mmaacd.ax codec which was de-registered during the SAF 5 uninstall. I also no longer appear to be suffering some minor audio distortion on live TV (all channels) that I noticed after the upgrade from NPVR 2.0.3 to 2.1.4. The Bluray playback looks and sounds great.

Thanks.

Confirms what I always has suspected; ffdshow (and all based on it) is crap Wink

Out of interest, having removed SAF, what codecs is it now using for bluray playback? LAV for sound I assume but what for H264?

Mine is picking the 'Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder'.

How do you guys handle subtitles? Do you not need ffdshow for that? I'm tempted to remove SAF since all I need is the MS decoders and LAV, but I'm sure there's something that'll trip me up and I'm wondering if its subtitles...

Subtitles are normally handled by Vobsub or some windows filter that I don't remember the name of right now :o

I googled Vobsub and have downloaded. It comes with DVobSub.ax but that doesn't seem to work with psg subtitles from bluray rips -I've not tried with an original disk but mkv rips that have the original psg subs dont work. The LAV splitter splits out video (whichgoesto MS DTV-DVD decoder) and audio(to LAV audio decoder) but the subtitles dont connect to anything (in Graphstudio). I've tried connecting to DirectVobSub in Graphstudio but its not interested. ffdshow used to work, but I'm sure it was causing grief elswhere so would rather remove if I can getsomething else to show these subs. Any ideas?
