Hi,

I've recently set up a second satellite dish and have connected to my existing Hauppauge Nova-HD via a Diseqc switch (V2.0, 2-port).

Dish 1 is pointed at Astra 28.2E
Dish 2 is pointed at KA-SAT 9E

I deleted all my satellite channels (I only use satellite for BBC HD / Channel 4 HD) and setup the 2-dish option in NPVR using Diseqc. It scanned all the channels fine. All channels display fine.

However, when I do a new start of NPVR and try and launch into a channel from the TV guide, Dish 1 channels often fail to get a picture/sound (no HDD activity), while Dish 2 channels always work. Also, when on a Dish 2 channel and switching to a Dish 1 channel, sometimes it won't pick up the Dish 1 channel (no picture/sound or HDD activity).

Any thoughts? I've looked at the logs but can't see where channels are tuned or any mention of Diseqc (NPVR is so reliable now, I had to search to find the logs!).

I've seem some talk on the forums from years ago about their being a delay with Diseqc switching, but also hints that this should be resolved now.

Any help much appreciated as always. Smile

I'm not aware of any known issues with this. Can you reproduce the problem and post the npvr.log nrecord.log and ndigitalhost.log?

Hi sub,

Logs are attached.

I'm sure you can tell by reading the logs, but here is what happened:

Code:
00 - Start NPVR
01 - Tune to channel:   1 [DVB-T]           - OK
02 - Tune to channel:  61 [DVB-S2 / Dish 2] - OK
03 - Tune to channel: 831 [DVB-S  / Dish 1] - OK
04 - Tune to channel:  61 [DVB-S2 / Dish 2] - OK
05 - Tune to channel: 821 [DVB-S2 / Dish 1] - FAIL
06 - Tune to channel: 822 [DVB-S2 / Dish 1] - FAIL
07 - Tune to channel: 823 [DVB-S  / Dish 1] - OK
08 - Tune to channel:  61 [DVB-S2 / Dish 2] - OK
09 - Tune to channel: 823 [DVB-S  / Dish 1] - OK

Additionally not in log:

Code:
00 - Start NPVR
01 - Tune to channel:  61 [DVB-S2 / Dish 2] - OK
02 - Tune to channel: 824 [DVB-S2 / Dish 1] - OK
03 - Tune to channel:  61 [DVB-S2 / Dish 2] - OK
04 - Tune to channel: 824 [DVB-S2 / Dish 1] - OK

Channels 821 and 822 are the ones that seem to fail to tune. These are "BBC One HD" and "BBC HD" respectively. If I tune to channel 823 (ITV1 HD) and back 821 or 822 they both work okay.

It seems that the Diseqc command maybe isn't been sent for 821 and 822?

Thanks for having a look. Smile

Maybe as a first step try the suggestion above for setting <TuneTwiceOnDigitalChannels> to true.

Hi sub,

Sorry, I should really have tried that! Yes, it seems to work okay with Kyle's suggestion. I'd be curious to know what the underlying problem is.

Out of interest, does that config setting always tune twice regardless of the first attempt, or only try a second time if no data is received? It doesn't seem to introduce a noticable delay.

P.S. - Your support is amazing! I wish I could get this level of support with the packages I use that cost £1000+ a year!

Great - good to hear it worked. With that setting it always submits the tuning request a second time. I'm not sure what the cause would have been, but it sounds like the first tuning request didnt happen in the driver.

Thanks for your help!

Just wondering, if it locks with the first request and starts a data stream, does the second request do anything. That is, would the tuner break the existing stream and start a new one. I'm just a geek and curious about the internals of the system! Big Grin
