Sub,

As it seems rather quiet around here for technical issues with 2.4.3 (clearly an excellent release), perhaps it's a good time to ask for a small new feature. Many DVR/PVR's and even VCR's in the last century had a single-frame viewing mode. Sometimes there'd be a dedicated button on the remote for a single frame-skip while other times hitting the pause button while already paused would simply advance a single frame and pause again.

I propose the latter solution for NPVR - if the user presses Pause while already paused, advance one frame and pause again; show only the timeline but not the show details box and clear it if it's already showing. Pressing Play while paused would resume normal playback.

Also, while I'm at it, in the 2.4.3 announcement thread I asked to have the old "short skip" moved to the left/right arrow keys if FastPlay is enabled on the traditional ff/rw buttons. That way I could have all three navigation methods at once - Long Skips, Short Skips, and FF/RW.

Finally, is it technically possible to implement a slow-motion playback mode? If so, perhaps implement it so that if the user pauses first, then presses FF or RW, enter Slow-Mo; if the user presses FF or RW again, switch to FastPlay.

Thanks for your consideration.

I think they all would add to the value of NPVR, those are not major improvements but such technical gigs impresses people makes people like the product.

I dont know at this stage. I think slow-mo forward, and step next frame forward may be possible, but not backwards (using standard directshow components). I cant promise anything on this front because I wouldn't know until I tried it.

I will probably be able to add keys for both fastplay and short skip though.

Slow-mo forward would be just fine; backwards would be far less useful. In fact I think it's common in other implementations I've seen that slow-mo is strictly forward only.

I know you already have code somewhere that does the single frame skip forward: I gather the renderer won't update the screen unless it has a frame of video to show, so I always see a single frame jump when you clear the show-details box while paused.

Thanks for anything you can do on these.
