I have looking for a way to capture HDMI (non-HDCP) and it seems Hauppauge has a nice update to the HDPVR as another alternative to their Colossus.
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/press/pdf/...csheet.pdf If you have reservations about the USB nature of the HDPVR I have made over 50 recordings this month and haven`t had to reset the box once (we did have on thunderstorm outage for a few hours)

Here it is on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmz7vXQlugU

so basically just a HDPVR with HDMI inputs and 1080P recording format instead of top end of 1080I?
the old 'Gaming Edition' just added the cable for game consoles, but this one is different hardware internally.

glad to hear the drivers are pretty stable...my old original hdpvr works like a charm, maybe a reset once in 6 months, most likely power related..
and the picture cannot be beat Big Grin

Is that with the component input only or with HDMI as well?

Dont quote me, but I'm pretty sure if you supply it bitstream audio (like AC3), it'll retain the original audio encoding.

In the spec. pdf I linked to in the small print I read "Dolby Digital is a trademark of Dolby Laboratories" so I am optimistic. What I need to find out is if it supports a blaster or not.

True, I hadn't thought about that, but a major obstacle in AC3 playback is legal licensing since Win7 doesn't provide applications with a decoder. Besides it wouldn't have made sense for Hauppauge to license this if they didn't use it.

I am not sure if passthrough capture even requires a license, except for the use of the Dolby trademark.

My cable co is now blocking the HDMI on their STB effectively making the HDPVR 2 far less value, fortunately for now the component analog hole is open. It was never perfect with no 5:1 but now with no HDMI it never will have good audio.
