Sub, I remember that this card did report only 320x240 resolution but you were able to force it to 720x576, and that works fine. Could you supply an experimental patch to try to force the resolution to 1280x720? Also the recordings from this card claims to be PAL but has a framerate of 29.97, any idea why? It is connected to a STB via the composite connection.

It's analog card, so the most your going to get is 720x576. You cant force it to 1280x720.

Have you ever tried it so you know for sure? The input to the card is 720p from the STB and it is obviously able to downscale it to 576p. But why do I get 29.97 fps?

Yes, I know for sure. You're not going to get any higher than 720x576 from it.

The 29.97 fps sounds like a bug in the drivers.

The only way to achieve what you want over composite or s-video which can't possibly output better than SD quality you want the highest bit rate you feel necessary. If you have an STB capable of outputting wide-screen and also have a capture card like the newer Hauppauge cards that allow you to mark recordngs as wide screen in theory you could approach maximum DVD spec.

Yea, I'v been looking at the newer Hauppauge cards capable of HD from composite but unfortunately they are rather expensive. The only alternative is the card we discussed in the Hardware forum but I have my doubts about software encoding of HD material. Has anyone tried that?

If you re-read my post, I was giving you a cheaper SD solution

And if you re-read my first post you'll see that I'm not looking for a SD solution as I already have one Big Grin

Sorry I guess I should have written that I thought your were looking for best way to capture from composite out which is implicitly SD.
