Hi. I'm a long time GB-PVR user who is just now trying to migrate to NPVR. This is my first time using NPVR.

I am unable to use my Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro (Ati Theater 550 Pro) analogue/capture card. The device is present on my device list but I am unable to tune to any channel with it. It seems to have a problem communicated with the onboard encoder (log files attached). It throws an exception error when I try to perform a channel scan (error message also attached). When I tried to tune it to a channel after manually setting one up, it simply says the device is unavailable.

Note that I have a Hauppauge HVR-1600 installed as well. I have no problem capturing analogue signals with it. Both analogue tuner/capture cards still work with my GB-PVR software.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I love your pvr software!

It seems like it is trying to use the soft encoder but these cards has HW onboard encoder (at least mine does). What does the card description look like in your AnalogDevices.xml? If it says soft encoder, try changing it.

Can you run FilterCheck and post the resulting log?

The description in AnologDevices.xml says it uses onboard encoding. If you look at the logs, NPVR only tries to use software encoding after hardware encoding fails (I don't know why the software encoder doesn't work either).

FilterCheck log attached.

Also, I'm running a Windows XP SP3 installation.

I believe the AnalogDevices.xml entry is incorrect. I think it should be:
Code:
    <Device filter="ATI AVStream Analog Capture">
        <Name>ATI 550 Pro</Name>
        <Type>HARD_ENCODE</Type>
        <FilterEncoder>[B][color=#FF0000]ATI AVStream MPEG2 Multiplexer[/color][/B]</FilterEncoder>
    </Device>

I tried modifying the AnalogDevices.xml entry as per whurlston's suggestion but it had no affect. The same logs and error messages were produced.

Did you restart the recording service after modifying AnalogDevices.xml?

Yes. When that didn't work, I tried a reboot just to be sure.

I admit this isn't exactly helpful, but I've seen previous threads about being unable to get theatre 550 pro cards to work with NPVR and it seems to me they've all ended with no resolution. Other ATI tuners seem to work fine.

That is somewhat helpful. I was under the impression that a lot of people were still using these cards.
