I've installed a Hauppauge DCR-2650 on my i7/ASUS PC and it works with Windows Media Center.
However, when I install NPVR (so that I can use the 2650 with XBMC), the NPVR Setup does not see the DCR-2650 as a device to be "configured/setup".
Interestingly and as another symptom of the problem, neither does the WinTV v2.7 software - i.e. it does not find any channels after telling it that I have a M-Card installed, etc...

Has anyone had this problem and/or been able to use a 2650 with NPVR?

Thanks,

It needs to have hdhomerun_config.exe installed on the machine before it'll see it. You can download the Windows software from silicondust.com to get this installed.

Well, now it recognizes the 2650, but when I do a channel scan within NPVR, it does not recognize any channels, therefore it does not add any viewable channels to the database.
I have de-installed and reinstalled NPVR. XBMC sees that the NPVR tuner is installed an the add-on works - but again since there are not channels in the database, no live TV is shown.

Thanks,

Try viewing the device's built-in web server, and do a scan from there, then retry it in NextPVR.

I am surprised that the Haupauge instructions don't tell you to scan for channels through the web browser first... Amazing. So the web browser scan found 188 channels. WinTV now sees all of the channels found and they are viewable (video and audio).
NPVR also "finds" all 188 channels now, but when you go to any channel, there is no picture or sound - just a black screen - and of course the same happens inside of XBMC - actually XBMC just goes into an endless loop of "...working...."

I have tried uninstalling NPVR and loading the latest version (2.6.2), but still no viewable screen nor audio. What do you recommend I try next?

Thanks

What decoders do you have selected on the Settings->Decoders screen?

If you do a recording, do you end up with a normal size file, or is it zero bytes long? If the former, does it play in Windows Media Player?

You might want to try recording something to see how that works, but I think you are now entering the realm of decoders. What version of Windows are you running? This could affect your choice of MPEG2 Video decoder. For digital channels you will need an AC3 Audio decoder, and it wouldn't be surprising if there isn't one currently on your system that works with NPVR. If some of your channels are analog, then you need to enable an MPEG1 Audio decoder under Settings/Decoders.

I'm using Windows 7. I don't have the TV schedule populated in NPVR and no other way that I can find to start a recording, so I'm trying to download SchedulesDirect to populate the NPVR TV schedule, but the Schedules Direct web site is having a problem accepting new accounts/users.

Since WinTV 7 was working, I wen to the WinTV Setup screen and used the same codecs they were using and entered tem into NPVR Setup screen. They are the following:

Video Renderer: EVR

Video Decoders:
MPEG2 Video: MainConcept
H.64 Video: ArcSot

Audio Decoders:
MPEG1 Audio: Hauppauge MPEG
AC3 Audio: Hauppauge E-AC3
E-AC3 Audio: Arcsoft
AAC Audio: Arcsoft
HE-AAC Audio: Disabled

Obviously these work with WinTV, but not with NPRV as there was no change to the black screen...

Just go to the Recordings screen, move the mouse to the top of the screen, and click the 'Manual Recording' button in the top bar, and set the times for the recording. (before you ask - you can either press left/right to adjust the time in 10 minute increments, or type a four digital time of your choosing)
