Working on Server 2012

Hi,

Just thought I'd say I have Next PVR running in Windows 2012 server with a Hauppauge WinTV 88x (DVB-S2+IR) using freesat in the UK.

Rough instructions to get things working are:
Add .net Framework 3.5 feature (next two tasks can be done while this is completeing)
install tv card drivers you must download or use win8 to fetch the ones you need (install in win8 then export using DriverMax)
run serverbda for Windows 2012 (instructions here) I had to grab alot of files from a win8 install
Reboot
Run NPVRSetup_2_6_2
add NRecord.exe to firewall exception if you want remote clients

I have XMBC on my phone which is just fantastic!

I'm trying to get this to work on Windows Server 2012 as a NextPVR server. Is that what you have? I'd like to have a centralized NextPVR server with XMBC clients hitting it from my other PCs. I'm trying to replace Windows Media Center.. using HD Home Run Prime.

Hi jyan_osu,

The .net Framework 3.5 is no longer needed for NextPVR version 3.1.1. It will automatically install .net 4.0 if it isn't present on your system.

The HDHomeRun Prime with CableCard is a special case: The BDA support link above is not essential. However you would need BDA support if you wanted to tune QAM without a CableCard, or if you wanted to connect an antenna and tune OTA ATSC channels, or if you installed any conventional ATSC/QAM tuner (including HDHR Dual).

There are a number of threads about HDHR Prime setup, but it can't be stressed enough that you need to add firewall exceptions for NextPVR.exe and NRecord.exe since the Prime is a network device. I believe you would need a third exception for NDigitalHost.exe for ATSC/QAM tuning with the Prime.

Good news is that I added three firewall exceptions and it's working! My Windows Server 2012 standard is running NextPVR.. I just installed XBMC on my ASUS Transformer and installed the LiveTV plugin.. Pointed it to my Windows Server 2012 and I am watching Live TV with my HDHomeRunPrime w/ cable card
I guess my next step is to find a way to get an EPG...
I did do that BDA script thing from my Win 8 machine
I'm actually surprised it worked so quickly..
