2250 Dual Analog/QAM tuner on Charter Digital Cable, no digital or hd box.

Have been happily using a December 2009 release of GB-PVR... happy wife = no reason to make changes on a rock solid setup! Smile Over due donation is in short order! I have a LOT of channel mapping to figure out on the HD side... going to be interesting here for a while!

I have the analog tuners setup and working with epg, recording, etc. However I scanned the QAM and found a bunch of channels in the clear I can use. I would like to use them as some of them are major networks in HD versus the SD I have had until now. The issue I am running into is if I am recording on the analog tuners (both of them) I cannot watch live on a digital tuner. Can I not use the analogs and the digital tuners all at the same time? Basically does it give me two tuners available in any combination of digital or analog? As in I can't record two analog and digital all at once?

Also, I setup a digital line up in Schedules Direct and have them mapped on the QAM tuners, however they never seem to pull guide data?

Last question, which decoders are now recommended?

Logs are zipped and attached, thanks for any help!

The HVR-2250 has two tuners. Each tuner can be used for either analog or digital. At any one time those two tuners on the HVR-2250 could be used for analog+analog, or digital+digital, or analog+digital. Hope that answers the question?

Is an 'Update EPG' shown in these logs? If not, hit the 'Update EPG' button, wait for it to complete, then zip and attach the npvr.log.

There is no real recommended decoders. Lots of people use different decoders. I prefer the big name decoders from Microsoft/ArcSoft/Cyberlink/MainConcept etc.

Your response time never ceases to amaze me... thank you!

Yes that answers my question, thank you! I ran yet another update EPG (ran many earlier trying to get stuff to work, to no avail) and this time it populates the higher channels. Thats my luck! LoL Any tips on channel mapping and how to figure them all out? Smile
Thanks again sub, donation headed in!

It's annoying on cable networks where they don't label the channels.

You can watch the channel in live tv, to identify what the channel is, then right click and select the "set channel EPG source" from the context menu.

Looks like you're missing the Full DirectX Runtime mentioned in the Getting Started sticky (or maybe just Patch 6):

2013-11-02 11:38:45.272 [ERROR][1] Error initialising Direct3D: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SlimDX.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found.

Is the Weather plugin working okay? It hasn't been updated recently, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work with 3.1.1.

It's working fine for me with 3.1.1 so it looks like it's one of the plugins that doesn't need updated

I think that particular variant of the error message indicates that the MSCVP100.DLL is missing, aka Patch 6.

@rowle1jt - for decoders, it depends on your OS. For 7, the MS DTV-DVD video decoder which comes with 7 is fine, but you will need the free AC3filter audio decoder, primarily for HD. For a mix of analog and digital (QAM) TV, you'll need to select both MPEG1 audio (for analog) and AC3 decoders (for QAM). And, for sure, use the EVR renderer. If you're on XP, you won't have the MS video decoder available, and the EVR renderer has some issues IIRC. Hoborg's SAF is probably a good choice, included both video and audio decoders, so you can skip AC3 filter. Get the unlocked version. I had your same MB and could not get satisfactory HD playback with XP using the on-board video. I went to a separate video card (Geforce 9500) which was OK, but the real solution for me was Win7. It's the best single thing you can do to improve a PVR, in my experience.

Thanks guys, will double check the direct X and patch.

I am on 7, and I am not using the onboard video. I have a fanless 7300gt in there so I hope it can keep up.

That 7300GT is probably on the order of the on-board, but I favor Nvidia over ATI because of the drivers. I have a low power Athlon 2800 or so system with a 7600GT that is OK for HD on 7. Seven is way better for video in my experience. Good luck!
