When using the Hauppauge MPV server the commands to control realtime functions must originate from a remote control. This is based on the assumption that the MVP OSD is the UI. Obviously, the host ui can be used simultainiously to schedule recordings and other non-realtime functions.
It seems it would be possible to instrument the host based ui such that it proxies certain realtime commands (play, stop, pause) to a running mpv server.
This would allow a networked laptop for example become a remote control for a mvp client without using the client osd.
