I just reloaded my OS (Win7 64-bit), and did a clean install of 3.4.8. It seemed to install correctly with no error messages, but I did not get that command prompt window with the "service installed correctly" message, and in fact the NPVR recording service did not install at all. Then I uninstalled 3.4.8 and installed 3.3.8, which installed properly. Thereafter, I was able to install 3.4.8 over the top of it, and all is working correctly now.

So there seems to be something missing in the latest 3.4.8 installer.

I too just did the same thing - my problem was that the recording service did not turn on automatically. I had to start it via the command line.

What I do on a clean Install ,,, Install from Scratch always right click and run as Administrator ... If I get an error then I check to make sure the service is stopped and I re-install the same way again and everything registers just fine. I do not uninstall the failed Install.

I had to do a similar thing with 3.3.8 several weeks ago. Just one caution. I used the Export Recordings function to save the recordings and the recurring recordings and then Import Recordings to restore them both. Everything seemed fine and the lists of Ready Recordings and Recurring recordings were full. Over the course of a week or two, I discovered about 1/3 of the Recurring Recordings were not working and had no intention of recording any upcoming shows. They had to be deleted and redone by hand. So, if you imported your recurring recordings, double check that they are working properly.

Thanks, but I did not import anything. But at the time of my first install attempt for 3.4.8, I did not have DirectX installed yet, but added that later. I don't recall that affects the recording service, but maybe it does.

Hi,
New here so thought you might want to know that 3.4.8 does not install on a clean machine. Tried it on XP and 8.1.
Setting found the capture card OK, found the DVB-T channels and even got the EPG info from them.
As soon as you try to watch live TV get an error saying 'Unable to communicate with the recording service'
Tried to re-install as suggested above - still no joy
I then looked at the installation details - last but one operation in the install script is (on the win 8.1 machine)
Execute: C:\Users\Public\NPVR\NRecord.exe INSTALL
had a look and NRecord.exe isn't there, its actually in C:\Program Files(x86)\NPVR.
Opened a cmd window (right click and run as administrator) and types the following manually:
cd C:\Program Files(x86)\NPVR
nrecord install

and the service installed

I then ran

net start "NPVR Recording Service"

and it said the service had started.

Hope this helps

I found and fixed the issue with the installer that could lead to the recording service not being installed. I've uploaded the new installer.
