My recordings and backed up DVDs keep getting deleted. I upgraded to the latest version this morning, and I've been browsing around starting/stopping various videos, etc over the MVP. For some reason it keeps deleting my videos - is anyone else running into this? I've lost 4 backed up DVDs and 1 Simpsons episode so far Sad

The only other thing I can think of is that I downloaded the videos plugin this morning too, but once I noticed things getting deleted I disabled it...and things are still getting deleted.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Someone else also reported this recently, but I dont personally believe its GB-PVR. There isn't anything in the core components of GB-PVR that could do this. It could be related to one of the plugins.

If you find a repeat set of steps, and it's a problem with the core of GB-PVR, then let me know and I'll fix it.

The video archive plug-in will delete recording files (but not backup DVDs unless they are in mpg format and stored in a subdirectory under the recordings directoty), but it will only do so after it copies them to an archive location. Also, it will not do this automatically. You would either have to manually select the file and click the Archive button or you would have to rnu the archiveutility, for example form the postepgupdate.bat file.

Hmmm...Where is the archive location? I didn't ask it to archive anything -- I was just clicking around to various directories, and I started/stopped a few videos.

Unless you have downloaded and installed the video archive plug-in you don't have it. If you have, you can run the config program and look at the settings for the Videos plug-in. That will tell you where archives are stored. Then look to see if you have a postepgupdate.bat file in the main GBPVR directory and, if so, if it calls the archiveutility. If not, then you have something else going on.

I did download and install the plugin this morning. I can't find any archived videos anywhere so I think the plugin may have thought each archive succeeded, and deleted the originals? Would you be interested in looking at any log files?

If you just installed it this morning it seems unlikly to have tried to archive anything. The log file to look in is ArchiveDB-PC.log in the Jeff subdirectory, which will show you if any files have been deleted the plug-in and where they were copied to.

The ArchiveDB-PC.log file doesn't list anything other than the first three lines below. However, this is what is listed in ArchiveDB-MVP.log. It looks like it is listing two of the videos that have been deleted. Does "Change event type is Deleted" mean that it deleted the file? I'm not sure why it doesn't list all of the files that I lost though:

The change event is the plug-in reacting to notice of a delete event from the operating system. It is not an indication that the plug-in itself deleted the file. You should have other log files in the jeff subdirectory. The -mvp ones represent the instance serving an MVP. The -PC ones are from copies running local to the PC. Deleting of files autpomatically is only done as part of background archiving on the PC, not the MVP. If you look for a log file called archiveupdate.exe.log this will show you what the automatic archive process tried to do. If you don't see this file the archive process did not run.
