Hi There
I run NextPVR on a headless Always-On Server with loads of Tuners attached.

I then connect to the Server from my HTPC in Client mode and this way I can record multiple TV Shows while my HTPC is offline.

I had this working beautifully however I have just upgraded to Version 3.5.7 (Both Client and Server) and now whenever I start up the client I get the message "Unable to communicate with server <Server Name>. Double check your server name....etc".

This message appears for about 5 seconds and then disappears and then NextPVR works fine.

Any idea why?

Cheers

Can you please post the npvr.log after the client gets this? I'll check.

Same issue here since the update, which logs do you need client or server?

since sub asked for the npvr.log, in this case it would be from the client.

This is interesting because I had the same thing happen to me after the recent upgrade. Everything was very slow, also. Since I was also setting up a new router at the same time I just put it down to that. After a day, everything returned to normal and it's been working fine since. I don't know that this adds anything substantive to this conversation, but I do find it interesting.

I suspect it's just windows networking being windows networking, and it's coincidental to the recent upgrade. my 3.5.7 client opens same as ever, no error or abnormal delay.

I wonder if this problem with NAS access accounts for the unusual app crashes I've experienced. Any file, fast forwarding, even using the mouse to jump forward several minutes, results, more often than not, in an app crash. Nothing else changed apart from the upgrade. I tried changing decoders and various settings, made no difference.

This never happened with the previous version.

there was a change in the NPVRTSreader expected to make it faster to skip in a file, I suppose it's possible that change is causing an issue reading files from a NAS. but it certainly wouldn't be related to this other issue accessing the NPVR database share.

Well that's the problem right there. Sorry to say that the change doesn't work for my setup, which is pulling the data off an 8-disk RAID over a Gigabit Ethernet wired link, so it's pretty quick.

My options seem to be to revert to the previous version, or request a change in the code. I'd rather not be stuck on an old version forever so any chance of a switch to turn off the new algorithm? Thanks.

you could try swapping in the NPVRTSReader2.ax from 3.4.8 and see if it works, and if it corrects your performance issue. I'm not aware of any changes in related code that would require the 3.5.7 version of the reader in order to function (I wouldn't necessarily be aware of any such change though, but worst case it just doesn't work).

you can extract the NPVRSetup_3_4_8.exe (download it from the 3.4.8 announcement thread) using 7-zip, then just copy over the reader like any other patch, backup your existing file of course.
