"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"

I keep getting this error after scheduling a few programs. The gbpvr.mdb recording_schedule table appears to get corrupted leading you to THINK a recording is scheduled, but it really isn't.

That's a symptom, but I have no idea what the cause is. If I check the "GBPVR.MDB" database I find entries with incomplete start and/or end times. Like this:

manual_start_time manual_end_time
4/1/2005 11:00:00 PM 4/2/2005

I also have entries like this:

manual_start_time manual_end_time
1/1/2001 1/1/2001

Can anyone help? I can't graduate this thing from the basement to the living room if I can't resolve issues like this!

Thanks in advance!

That just looks like the show finishes at 4/2/2005 00:00:00 so Access doesnt bother showing you the time.

These are season or reoccuring recordings.

Drats. I thought that might be the case just now after checking it out again. I cleared the database and reentered some schedules and saw the same "problem".

Any idea what causes that error? I got it tonight and it totally flaked out on me. It claimed to be recording "American Idol" when it should have been recording "Amazing Race 7" when it was really doing neither. It recorded about 27 minutes of Idol and gave up, but it still showed up as "recording".

Here's where things seem to go awry:

Sorry for the length. I'm hoping someone can make sense of this.

Those log errors look like you have a firewall or similar getting the way of communication between GB-PVR components

Hmm. I'm not sure what could be acting as a firewall. I use a router, so I haven't installed any software firewall protection. The problem is intermittent. I'm using an install of Windows2000 that's only a few days old.

However, after I woke up this past weekend to an EXTREMELY slow PVR, rebooted to see a bunch of advertisements pop up, I reinstalled W2K and loaded up all the security updates.

The whole PC froze the night before last so I posted the question above THEN throttled the system down in BIOS and installed Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search & Destroy. I also cleared out the program schedule in the database and re-scheduled some recordings for last night. No lock-up last night.

The only extras I'm running are Ghost in the system tray & ATI's control panel.

Any suggestions on programs I may try to "end task" or services I should shut down?

Update: I just realized something. This error usually occurs when I'm quickly updating the schedule and zipping through the program guide.

I've noticed sometimes it takes a while for changes to show up on the "Pending" list. Is it possible that I'm requesting a schedule before the previous one has been completed? Is it possible that one instance still has the database open so the next can't update it?

Just a newbie guess.

I'd also suggest you NOT use other things on that box. If it's purpose is PVR duty, don't surf the NET with it.. Or go with Firefox as a browser. I usually put ClamAV on my boxes and use Spybot S&D, however on my PVR I don't do this and it works prefectly, OS wise. No XPSP2 firewall at all, just my Checkpoint VPN-1 Edge firewall to the Internet.

Weird, I just say the connection refused error. This on the one machine, no firewall or such software (not used for anything else). However the program seems to have been set for recording.

Hi I'm a new user and thought I would jump on this post as well. I have the same error message pop up, but only after i schedule a program to record. After I schedule a recording, I get this message and cannot watch live tv. Restarting the computer usually resolves the problem. I can record live tv without getting this error. Can anyone help?

I get the same error when I go to schedule a recording sometimes?
Everything else works fine.
I am using XPSP2.
