Good morning everyone,

I'm a new user just installed to replace WMC on my win 10 machine. I followed the wiki and everything went fine. I did need to download the decoder which installed without an issue. I can record, play back with no issues. In WMC I could FF out the commercials. The FF function worked very smoothly with increasing the speed of the FF with another tap of the FF button. I have changed the FF function to faster playback on the program but I does not work that great and the video hangs. I get audio but the video does not play. I have to close out and reopen.

Is there a setting I need to change for smoother FF though the commercials or is this a limitation of the program?

Thanks very much great interface, clear picture better than WMC I'm liking it except for this issue.

Many of us use skip rather than FF ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...Misc2#toc9

The skip operation is described in the table at the bottom of (also applies to playback of recordings) ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Manual.LiveTV

You can change the default skip periods ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ced#toc107

Unfortunately you're not likely to get exactly what you're wanting. The standard for directshow decoders did not define multispeed playback, and most decoders only support 1x speed, and anything beyond that requires private proprietary APIs to activate the special feature in the decoders and demux. When you're Microsoft, and everyone is using the same decoder, and you own the decoder (so can implement whatever private APIs you want), then you can get this. When you're NextPVR, everybody is using a different decoder, some of the commercial decoders may have this feature (but the API to enable it is not publically available), then you have to do the best with you can with the standard features of the decoders...in summary, get used to the skipping model instead.

You might also want to check out Comskip and the ability to have NextPVR automatically skip over the commercials completely.

That is a far better solution for recorded shows, Comskip work just fine after the initial tuning Smile

Thanks for all the reply's. I did not know the smooth Ff playback was a function of a decoder then again I'm not that versed in creating software either. I looked at comskip looks a bit overwhelming but I'll try it out. Right now i'm not overly concerned as long as wmc still works.

Most adds are either 3 or 4 minutes long so that's just 3 or 4 skips way easier than using the fast forward
Its just a matter of getting to it
If you really must have fast forward kodi can do it as a front end for next pvr.So once wmc finally dies there are still options

Most UK adds are something like 210 seconds long so I have skip set to 70 seconds. skip, wait a sec, skip, wait a sec, skip , done. Works well enough for us I find and is quite often bang on.

btw, How well comskip works, depends to some extent on where you live. If your broadcasts have logo changes, black frames and/or silence in between ads and the show, it can work well. However for UK broadcasts I found that we often don't have these cues and it also look a long time to chug though our H264 HD broadcasts (with the paid H264 version). Comskip proved to be far more trouble that it's worth personally but then of course we don't anywhere as many ads in the UK as in the US.

There is an undocumented parameter in comskip.ini called tickertape_percent, if you set it to 40 comskip will only consider the upper 40% of each frame, I'v found that it works well and reduces the processing time drastically Smile

FYI the comments in comskip.txt indicate that this value is the percentage from the bottom of the screen to IGNORE. So a value of 40 will only consider the upper 60% of each frame.
