Are there other remotes that will work with the MVP besides the Hauppauge remote? My son lost our remote so the MVP is kind of useless at the moment. I need to buy a replacement and was wondering what my choices are.

I know that my Phillips TV and my Hauppauge remote is, to say, not compatible. That is, they are interacting heavily on each other.

I suggest you mail hauppauge, they have an excellent support. Atleast in Sweden.

I have a spare silver remote, the 34 button model. You can have it for free, where do you live?

I'm pretty sure my brother has his Harmony remote (Logitech now own Harmony) working with his MVP. I haven't gotten around to making mine work yet. Usually Harmony remotes work once you tell it the device you're trying to control. Harmony remotes are absolutely amazing an controlling a home theater set-up -- well worth looking into.

Cheers,

Do a search for "JP1". It seems that many cheaply available remotes can be connected to your computer and programmed. Supposedly operating GB-PVR through the Hauppauge receiver is one capability. I'd like to try this out soon myself.
GB-PVR (usually newest version) (Love it! Direct access to 45-button Hauppauge remote not working)
WXP SP2 / Cel 2.9Ghz / 512DDR/400 / Intel PERL / PVR-150, Matrox G550, "160"Gb WD 7200/8Mb

Could Sub or maybe Reven also (as I use MyMusic) or any other tech guy explain where the processes are that allow the MVP remote to function with GBPVR.

Mine works mostly but does have some non intuitive responses. Is this something that needs to be done in GBPVR or its Plugins?

Cheers

Mine works fine. I can do everything via the remote. In fact I pnly use GBPVR via the MVP and thus only use the remote for input. What probelm do you have?

By the way after much seaching we found our missing remote tucked away in a very non-obvious spot so, our remote crisis is solved, for now.

The MVP will only respond to the signals from the two types of remote which are sold with the MVP, but there is nothing to stop you using any "learning" remote to get it playback the exact same IR signals. You may also find a unversial remote that can send these same commands, but this is less likely.

Sub thanks, I understand that. I was more getting at - how do they interact with GBPVR & Plugins? eg Could we (the users) change/add a key function? Or are they hard coded?

In MyMusic to play a track I have to hit the enter button to play as the play button does not respond.

Thanks

There is a hard-coded mapping between scan codes from the MVP and (fake) keystrokes.

Sorry, I cant help you there I dont really know anything about MyMusic. Reven would need to code MyMusic to respond to either keystroke combination if your wanted both 'enter' and 'play' to work from the MVP remote.
