I installed the ...190916 version of V5 and ran "InstallService.bat." Got a lot of OKs but service startup didn't complete. I changed the service startup parameter to "Manual" and rebooted. I started the service manually and this time it completed and shows "Running" in the task manager.

I next tried to record while not signed in:
- Start the desktop app.
- Scheduled a future show
- Signed out.

When the designated time arrived, nothing happened(the tuner LED didn't light). I signed back in and started "NextPVRServer.exe." After a few seconds, the tuner LED turned on and the show was recorded to completion.

Is this normal? I thought the service would allow recordings without being signed in. Have I got it wrong?

Thanks.
Later...JohnC

You'd probably need to supply the logs, and list us know what time to look at.

Was it this show? It looks like its created the file, and started recording ok. Do you get a file? Does it have stuff in it?

The show was recorded from 14:04 to completion and plays back just fine.

This show was supposed to start recording at 14:00. 14:04 was when I signed back into the system and started "NextPVRServer.exe." An earlier log shows the program being scheduled. My recollection at the time was that "NextPVR Service" was running the whole time which I thought would start the recording at 14:00.

PS - Where did the file "E:\NPVR-Capture\CBS Fall Preview Show\CBS Fall Preview Show_20190921_14001430.xml" come from? Same name as recorded .ts file but with .xml.

The service was stopped about 13:47, so wasn't running at 14:00 to be able to start the recording.

The app created it. It has some metadata about the recording. v4 always created this file too, but on an NTFS driver it would previously embed it in .ts file. If you were on a FAT or network drive, it'd previously create a separate file. The concept of embedding it as an NTFS alternate data stream isn't cross platform compatible, so v5 doesn't attempt to do that.

Maybe my facts are uncoordinated. I will try again and let you know what I find. But...

Should I be able to record while signed out if the service is running?

Yes, assuming you're using the actual service (ie, not manually running NextPVRServer.exe)
