A post today reminded me that this is still broken in the 200209 update.

Honestly, I think you're better off using the 'update m3u' button these days, which has moved on since this original discussion, and gives you an opportunity to specify the groups you want to update etc.

I don't use it I was just following up. However if I did I wouldn't want to go into the web app each day I would want it part of the EPG update process.

I agree 100% with this, just as the EPG can be scheduled to update automatically daily there should be an option to update the channel names from the M3U source daily. The feature wouldn't even need to add/remove new channels, just update the names of the existing channels for things like sporting events which can change on a daily basis.

Updating channel names only is a new one for me, I don't recall ever hearing this one before, seems like a special use case and certainly not I was thinking of.

Yeah, thats almost the reverse of what the original "setting.m3u.update" did. It'd update the url if it changed for a channel name, and pull in new streams for any new channel names found.

For this use case, assuming there is a matching EPG item, could you not just use generic channel names with search to record and the EPG to select what to watch? If not ask your provider for an EPG.
