Hi everybody!

I'm pretty new to NextPVR and also to this forum, this is my first post actually. So, please be kind   Wink
I am getting more and more comfortable with NextPVR being someone who used DVBLogic's DVBLink server for ages.

The question (or wish) that I have is difficult to put into one word, maybe IPTV Broadcasting is the correct description, I don't know.
What I would like to do is the following:

At my place I use cable TV. I have a PC that is running NextPVR (formerly DVBLink) on Windows 10. There is one DVB-C PCIe card installed that gives access to 8 tuners hence enabling me to watch 8 streams simultanously. Right now, I am using KODI on a Raspberry Pi with LibreELEC installed on it and attached to almost every single TV in our home. This way I cannot only see all my DVB-C channels but I also have access to other media.

I also have a few TVs here that are able to handle IPTV (DBV-IP, Sat>IP).
Now my question, or wish:

Is is possible that NextPVR acts as an IPTV broadcaster turning the DBV-C streams into IPTV streams and sending them via network to IPTV tuners or TV that can handle IPTV or Sat>IP?

That way I wouldn't need a Raspi with each TV and I wouldn't have to install antenna cables to every TV but I could keep it simple and have Cat. 7 network cabling everywhere.

There is one server offered by a German guy, it is called DVBViewer, that offers exactly this service. But I must admit that I don't like it very much since its UI is quite confusing, also the media server could do better in terms of transcoding and VPN access. So, to me DVBViewer is not a solution.

Thank you!

Cheers

NextPVR already acts as a IPTV server, and can serve up any of it's channels as IPTV.

It's not a SAT>IP server, but you can view the streams over IP from clients. ie, in VLC you can just open a network stream from NextPVR using (for example) http://ipaddress:8866/live?channel=12. This delivers the same raw stream that a client would get from a SAT>IP server, but over http instead of rtp. You can view these streams easily using Kodi, using the Kodi NextPVR addon.

It's unlikely I'd directly add a SAT>IP server. I don't think my two recent LG TVs support SAT>IP either.

Sorry, I don't really have a solution for how you'd access these directly from a Smart TV.

You could still keep LibreElec running with pvr.nextpvr and centralize your tuners into one single NextPVR installation. The Kodi PVR client gives far better access to recordings, timeshifting and PVR functionality and than generic IPTV. Many Smart TV support Android or Roku so you might not even need the RPi

Hi Martin, hi sub!

Thanks for your reply!

Well, that's what I already do actually. It's a central NextPVR installation and Raspberry Pis with LibreELEC on them as clients connected via HDMI to the TVs. And thanks to the CEC support, I don't even need another remote control than the one of the TV. It's a good solution actually.

But the basic idea is to use the Smart TV as it is, with its own tuner capabilities. Some TVs, e.g. the Panasonic Viera TX-40CSW524 have a Sat>IP tuner in them and act as a Sat>IP client.
You're right, Martin, in this scenario I wouldn't have access to neat little things like the NextPVR's EPG etc (although the TV itself offers a pretty good EPG and also local recording capabilities if a USB HDD is connected to it), but the temptation is that I could just plugin the TV, run a channel scan via IP and that's it. No more need to set up a Raspi with LibreELEC and one item less consuming electric power.

That's correct, sub, Sat>IP (or DVB via IP in general) is using RTP on UDP as protocol and usually offers multicast, as far as I know. I found more details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sat-IP

As I said before, it would be nice to have the possibility to turn every input signal into the NextPVR (be it DVB-T, DVB-T2, DVB-C, DVB-S2, IPTV or whatever) into a Sat>IP compliant stream that could be accessed by suitable TV tuners.

Anyway, I like NextPVR very much (the UI is just great!) and I am going to prefer it over DVBViewer for my scenario at home. The developers definitely can count on my donation  Big Grin

Thank you guys, again!

Cheers

Rory
