I use NextPVR to record OTA programs for the networks.  We've increasingly been noticing a problem with closed captions on our local CBS affiliate - other networks are fine.  Problems include typos, entire sentences of dialog skipped, and delays.

This is for shows like B Positive, SEAL Team, etc.

I actually contacted a CBS VP in charge of the area and was comparing episodes over time to try and pinpoint when it started, and came across something interesting.  Watching the show with NPVR, I see the issues.  Watching that same file with VLC, and the subtitles are perfect.

So the VLC software is picking up a different track for closed captioning than NPVR.

Is there a way to alter what track NPVR picks up?

Is it a CC1 vs CC2 issue or an issue that the correct track isn't rendering well. Typos make me thinking it is a a rendering issue. You probabaly need to place a 5 minute or longer chuck on a cloud drive so we can see the issue.

With VLC, it says it's using Closed Captions 1.  I don't know what NPVR uses.  When I try 2, 3, and 4 with VLC, nothing displays.

It sounds like a rendering issue to me. Which decoders did you try?

I am using the LAV decoders.  And, keep in mind, the subtitles are fine for NBC and FOX.  Only CBS has this issue.

I haven't changed anything, I had originally thought it was an issue with CBS changing something, then when I was pulling examples I accidently viewed a current program with VLC, and noted no issue, then viewed it with NPVR, and saw that it was different.

If VLC is showing them fine it is a rendering issue and not a broadcast network issue. You didn't provide logs so we can't tell you more then that.

Happy to provide logs.  Should I watch part of the show, then stop playback, then create the logs?  Or just send the most current logs (attached)?

The requested sample would be more helpful than logs.

Have to figure out how to get a slice of one, and then put it somewhere where I don't have a concern linking to.
