After many failed recordings recently I setup a test server to try and isolate the problem. With the test disk in the live server I could test each of the tuners without risking making changes to the live disk. This soon showed me that PCIe tuner DVB-S2 1 was faulty but tuner DVB-S2 2 was still working as were the two DVB-T2 tuners. Unfortunately the DVB-T2 tuners are not that useful these days as they dont have access to many HD channels.

However I have a SAT>IP tuner which I use for live TV via TVheadend but rarely use more than two so have 1 or 2 that NextPVR could use. I setup a test server using the test disk that found the faulty tuner in an old PC. It has no hardware tuners so only sees the three enabled SAT>IP tuners. All three tuners scan and find the expected channels. EPG is via a xml file imported from the main server. On the test server I can record up to 3 channels using the SAT>IP tuners. If I try to do this on the main server none of the SAT>IP tuners activate so no recordings are made!

Enclosed are two sets of logs showing recordings being made on the Test server but failing on the normal server!
NextPVR Server - HP N54L Microserver, Windows 10 - Storage 2 X 3TB - Tuners DVBSky S952 Twin DVB-S/S2 PCIe, Hauppauge Twin DVB-T2 USB, Telestar Digibit R1 Sat>IP Server.
Clients:- 2 X RPi3, 1 X RPi4 and Acer RL80 Celeron Nettop all running NextPVR New Client on LibreElec.

I think RTSP is failing

2023-09-05 16:44:54.398 [DEBUG][10] RTSP input source starting
...
2023-09-05 16:44:56.977 [ERROR][3] System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at NShared.Shim.InputSourceRTSP.WorkerThread()

Are you running SAT>IP on the default port 553 and are your firewall ports the same?

I think Live TV is better for testing than recordings

Thanks Martin. The two disks started out identical when I installed Windows 10 on Hard Disk then when it worked OK copied the disk to a SSD. Its a HP Microserver with 3 1/2 inch plugin disks but I only have one adaptor to take 2 1/2 inch SSD disks!!

I have used Live TV earlier as a test but have been looking for none zero byte recordings today. I can see live TV as a much easier way to get an answer.

Another thing to look at tomorrow is although I am using quite an old PC as the test server I realised earlier that its still quite a bit faster than the HP Microserver!! In normal use running NextPVR the Microserver processor does very little during recording and playback. Perhaps SAT>IP needs more processor power??

SAT>IP itself doesn't need much when PID filtering is used. I have used SoC devices like the RPi4 and S905x4 to run minisatip, stream to NextPVR, and play with Kodi all on one box.

Just to confirm that the Windows disk that worked with the SAT>IP tuner in my test server also worked when put in my NextPVR server. Rather than fault find why the current Windows NextPVR server disk does not recognise the SAT>IP devices I will do a clean install of Windows 10!
