I'm having a plethora of issues getting the channel 106.1 WPVI-HD to stream and record properly on both the web client, and having issues with streaming on the desktop client of NextPVR.

I believe that the issue with the recording is occuring due to the web client not being able to transcode h264, as described in this post https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=62074 . Suggestions from this previous post indicated I need to use the desktop client and download the latest LAV audio transcoders.

I've downloaded and installed the LAV ver 0.78 transcoders and can now stream the video from channel 106.1 on the desktop client, but am not getting any audio. Other channels from my tuner are working normally and can be recorded without any problems on both the web and desktop clients. I've uploaded the most recent logs where I'm having issues with the audio with this channel.

Any suggestions on other troubleshooting and/or fixes I can try out to get this to work?

Thanks!

NextPVR doesn't fully support viewing ATSC 3.0 AC-4 so as you noted there are a few issues.

- the web browser will fail because it only accepts video with audio it supports
- LAV and other Direct Show decoders will fail because they don't support AC-4

A few NextPVR clients, yauidroid, uidroid for Android and some Roku channel device will also play AC-4 audio. Low end Roku devices are a poor choice as the can't do AC-3 from ATSC 1 or AC-4 from ATSC 3.0

Also note these are not h264 streams they are h265 (HEVC) video.

You should be ok using the ATSC original broadcast on 6.1 for the next few years. Using the ATSC 1.0 stream will be better until 2027 since they won't have DRM. Most stations just take the original feed and transcode it to HEVC/AAC anyway.

If you want you can find unofficial version of ffmpeg that will work with the web browser but the server needs to do heavy work to transcode hevc to h264 and ac-4 to aac so it isn't worth the trouble. It doesn't help with all clients, so it is more proof-of-concept at this point.

Thanks for the information and suggestions, I'm still relatively new to whole field of digital media but it's been fun learning and I appreciate the help.

Apparently my antenna can't pick up the ATSC 1.0 channel 6.1 since it's a VHF-LOW channel and the signal strength is pretty shoddy if I don't get an outdoor antenna.

I'll look into some of the NextPVR clients suggested and see what works best with the ATSC 3.0 specs for channel 106.1. My original goal with this setup was to have a non-subscription DVR for OTA channels but not sure if I want to spend $$$ for a high end antenna and roof-top installation.

Cheers,

Yes companies moving ATSC 1.0 to low power to accomodate ATSC 3.0 and then DRM'ing ATSC 3.0 is the reason there is so much fuss right now for DVR users.

Look into the HDHRGuide option here too to keep costs down for now. DRM will eventually be an issue.
