Hi, hope someone can guide me..

The wireless network I have functions great. However I decided to expand with an MVP but have wireless streaming. I purchased an Asus WL-330g wireless pocket adapter to connect to the MVP. Unfortunatley I can't get this to work correctly.

My network setup is a wireless setup which comprises of the following.

Laptop - D-link G650
PC - D-link G520
Router Dlink DI-624

I first connected the MVP direct to router so that I could configure the DHCP and tested it physically attached to it. Connected direct works fine (tested with Hauppauage batch file to view screen on Laptop). When I connect the Asus wireless adapter to the MVP, the router doesn't see the MVP at all.

I am running the network with WEP 128bit and also have a Firewall (PC-cillin 2005) in place. As DHCP is configured and PC-cillin is also configured, I think I must be missing something.

Infact can't seem to do anything with the Asus. It could be perhaps something to do with SSID,IP address or the submask but I'm unsure what to check, alter and test.

Any help appreciated, infact someone must have set something like this.

Cheers

I had to reserve the MAC address of the MVP in DHCP to get mine to be seen on the wireless network. However, I never did get it to perform satisfactorally. It would start streaming fine, but stop before it got more than a minute or so into the video and the MVP would lose connection. It may have been interference, but I gave up and ran a cable.

Could the problem be the WEP encryption? I am not familiar with such adapters, but the ones I've seen don't support WEP. You probably, long ago, put in a password/key on your router and then on your pc and laptop. Unless the adapter allows you to load the wep keys onto it somehow, I think among other things you may need to disable wep on the router.

The I'm not a big fan of doing this, it eliminates a lot of extra mess. Turn off all the encryption and try the connection, if it works. Verify you can get WEP or WPA working with the adapter, perhaps connect it to a PC with a NIC or laptop and try and connect. Then if it works move it to the MVP, I hope you are going to run 802.11g.

Hello,
I am considering a wireless network and attaching my MVP via a bridge. My only concern is live tv streaming performance.

What have peoples experiences been like doing this? Is there any discernable performance drop off compared to a wired network?

Thanks,

There was talk of Hauppauge coming out with a wireless version of the MVP, does anyone have any news on this?

I was thinking of using a wireless bridge as well, but they are more expensive than the MVP which seems silly. In case people from Hauppauge snoop this forum once in a while ... a wireless MVP would be great Smile

You can always get a Linksys WRT54G, put HyperWRT or OpenWRT on it and make it a bridge for about $40 after MIR. That's not bad, IMHO.

I may actually have one of those laying around. I will have to give it a try. Thanks!

Any preference as to which package (HyperWRT or OpenWRT) works better?

Hi, a "newbie" here!

I was so happy to find this software and Forum. If I get successful installation and operations, I plan to support this innovative developer with a donation.

Relative to wireless MVP, I asked Hauppage about it, and they hinted a very strong "yes".

But I didn't wait. Relative to Networker's comments, I am streaming to my MVP from a 1.8 GHz PC, using dual, bridged Linksys WRT54GS routers running at 54Mbps. Playback is smooth - pretty close to wired performance. I don't mind the extra cost because the routers are fully progarmmable Linux boxes that are supported by an amazing third party (SVEASOFT). It is their software that allows me to get the high speed bridge. So I have a downstairs LAN connected wirelessly that is virtually indistinguishable in performance from a wired bridge. And the MVP sits on it as its only client (today).

I am eager to see how gbpvr works in this environment. Stay tuned - I may need your help!

(oh by the way, I have the Hauppage PVR-350 also just installed on the PC)
