I have been getting intermittant problems where I get an error message from XP GBPVR has encountered an error and cannot continue. I have been cancelling these and GBPVR exits. If I restart the system and restart GBPVR it may run for an hour and have the error or it may run overnight before failing again.

I have attached the Microsoft Error file to this post in hopes that someone can tell me what is wrong and how to correct it.

Further to this, I examined the error report a bit more and find that the module reported with the problem is "ivivideo.ax", which is part of the WinDVD package from Intervideo. From this I deduce that GBPVR chose this as the default video decoder.

I reinstalled the WinDVD package (ver 6) but the problem occured again today. As I also have the CyberLink DVD package I have now forced selection of the CyberLink video decoder for both video playback and DVD processing and am waiting to see if the problem occurs again.

Although GBPVR warns of a potential problem with some versions of the CyberLink and VMR I tested the on screen guide and it seems to be find in VMR in my case.

Some people have problems with Cyberlink. There is a warning in the config app about it. Why not try the Intervideo one that came with your card.

Thus far its working fine with the CyberLink. Thus far every time I've enabled "System Default" or "Intevideo" in the playback setup I get this error. Some times it takes all day and other times it happens within an hour or so, but it happens.

I've now uninstalled the WinDVD package completely, including "ivivideo.ax", to see if things stabilize.

Now I am really confused. Yesterday I removed the WinDVD package and drivers thinking that this would stop the errors in "inivideo.ax" and I forced the video and audio settings in "Playback" to the Cyberlink drivers.

Then I removed the WinDVD package and drivers from the system. When I rebooted and restarted GBPVR I had no audio on TV. So I reinstalled the WinDVD package and the audio was restored --- despite the fact that the GBPVR audio driver was set to the CyberLink driver the whole time.

This afternoon I got the Microsoft error message and it identified the failure in "inivideo.ax" again. The video and audio drivers are set to Cyberlink, not Intervideo so why is it failing in "inivideo.ax"?

About once a day I continue to get a fatal error that terminates GBPVR. The error is identified in the dialog box as triggered by "inivideo.ax", the Intervideo WinDVD Video Decoder

For the past 4 days GBPVR has been configured to use ONLY the CyberLink Video and Audio Decoders in TV and DVD playback yet clearly it is interfacing the Intervideo programs as evidenced by the error.

When you tell GB-PVR to use the CyberLink decoders, it makes a suggestion to the system that you want to use these decoder. The system can choose ignore this suggestion.

It may be ignoring your request because you're using VMR and your Cyberlink installation is not compatible with VMR. Alternatively, it could be because the InterVideo decoder has been configured to have a high system merit, in effect telling system that it should be used in all circumstances.

Try running:

regsvr32 /u inivideo.ax

The will deregister this one filter, and will stop the system from using it. You can later restore it by running:

regsvr32 inivideo.ax

A suggestion eh. Well, then I guess I better make it more than a suggestion :-)

I'll try deregistering the Intervideo driver as you suggest.

Any idea why it would crash in the Intervideo decoder? It's the version that comes with WinDVD 6.0. Have you seen this behavior before?

Even thought its a suggestion, in 99% of cases this suggestion is followed. Only a few times over the last 18 months have I come across a situation where the suggestion is ignored.

No sorry, I dont know why you'd be getting this. I've got this decoder installed on my machine and I've never seen this problem myself.

Thanks. I've unregistered the decoder and rebooted. GBPVR came up and thus far appears to be working. I should know in a day or, that's how long it has taken sometimes.
