Ok, so my PVR-500 finally arrived in the mail the other day. I popped it in, installed the latest drivers and fired up GB-PVR. My initial tests worked (much to my suprise) but I finally have arrived at a kink in my project.

First off, my specs:
AMD 1.7 GHz on a non-VIA ABit board (NF7-M)
512 DDR
PVR-500MCE
GBPVR using just the default plugins for testing

I can't get this damn card configured for the life of me. Since the PVR-500 has two hardware encoders I have set up two capture sources in config.exe: "PVR-500 1-1" and "PVR-500 1-2". I am planning on adding one more PVR-500 someday which is why I named them in this way.

I have tried many permutations of "PVR150" "PVR150MCE" "PVR500" and "PVR500 w/ FM Tuner"

Both are set for "Direct Recording Plugin" in the USA. One is "Capture device #1", the other is "Capture device #2". They are both set to Internal Tuners running off of Cable on Medium (default) quality.

Both are using Zap2It which works like a gem. I also updated the EPG for both "capture devices" without a hitch.

I am only running one coaxial cable into the tuner card using the 'second to the right' input jack. I understand this card has a built in splitter, and the right input jack is for the FM tuner (which I dont't intend to use)

When I use TV guide to record 2 programs at the same time, 'PVR-500 1-1' always records a 0KB empty file. 'PVR-500 1-2' works flawlessly. Also, if I try to enter Timeshift mode in LiveTV right away I just get dumped back into the TV Guide page with no error message. However if I 'record' any ol show first (and thus sacrificing it to the 0Kb pit) and THEN fire up timeshift mode...it will work fine.

What the heck am I doing wrong? Do I have all my facts about this card correct?

Thanks!

Yep, that sounds correct.

Any of those will work, but for consistency you should probably set them to PVR500. If you're trying to use FM radio, there is a little more to it, but we should probably ignore that aspect for now.

Reproduce the problem then email you logs over to support@devnz.com and I'll take a look.

Thanks for the quick reply! Smile

I will e-mail the log files to you momentarily, but which ones in particular are you looking for? I am quite new to wading through the code for GBPVR so it would be helpful to me (and your bandwidth) to know if you want me to parse anything out for you.

Thanks!

Oops...whilst I was waiting for replies I was dinking around with my drivers. I did a forced install of www.shspvr.com's newest drivers and it looks like I will have to update my EPG again. I will do so and send the logs in about 40 mins if that doesn't nix the problem. :p

Ok...sent. And for the record the drivers didn't nix the problem.

::looks around::

I hope reboot stumbles across this post. I know he just recently got a PVR-500 too. Smile

Ok, I am really scratching my head now. For the sake of purity I totally uninstalled GBPVR and reinstalled a fresh copy so now I am only using the default settings with no plugins whatsoever.

I checked out that post and was a little confused by the irregularity. On page 1 you say to put: <AutoDetectEncoder>true</AutoDetectEncoder> in config.xml.

On page 2 it was generally agreed that you are to put: <AutoDetectEncoder>false</AutoDetectEncoder> in config.xml.

In either case, I tried putting both in (not simultaneously) between the settings tags. I also put the NativeUtilities.dll in the devnz/gbpvr directory. I had to close out the recording service and kill the process in Windows Task Manager to do the latter, but I made sure to reboot after doing so.

GBPVR is still doing the same thing. Capture device #1 records a 0Kb file and Capture Device #2 works fine.

Any other ideas?

That original post was a mistake, its supposed to be <AutoDetectEncoder>false</AutoDetectEncoder>

There error you were getting in your earlier logs was:

23:40:37.968 ERROR failed to start Conexant Graph
23:40:37.968 VERBOSE ERROR_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED

...which is exactly what I expected it to be based on the description of the problem (multiple PVR150 class tuners, zero byte file).

So, we applied the patch, and set <AutoDetectEncoder>false</AutoDetectEncoder> in config.xml.

In your latest logs, it no longer show this error. Infact, it doesnt show any error. Are you sure its not working?

I just noticed a possible problem in my drivers. It appears one tuner was using the shspvr drivers and one tuner was using the factory CD drivers. I must have been really tired the other night when I was forcing drivers onto the unit Smile I'm not sure what kind of errors this may have caused but I have now forced them to both run off the factory drivers (because they were newer).

If this doesn't work, then I will try forcing the shspvr drivers as I have read they are a little more stable. I am currently updating EPG listings again. I am hoping that the error lies on my end, and if so I apologize in advance for making a useless post and wasting everyone's time Rolleyes
