GBPVR runs SLOW (playback)

Hi,
New to PVRs as I installed a PVR150 yesterday. GBPVR recorded program fine but it really bogs down when trying to use playback controls like fast forward. For example, I click FF and the controls go away and it just sits there. Then the progress bar at the top finally kicks in and shows that it has FF'd seceral minutes. Just hard to control. It was slow to start up as well and I had opened several sessions before I realized they were opening. PC is a homemade with AMD Athlon 1600+ (1.4 Ghz). Hard drive is new 160 GB WD with 7200 rpm and 8 MB cache. The data partition is 130 GB with no other data on it. Rebooting after recording did not help.

Playback is jerky and I have set Norton antiivirus to exclude the folders where I keep recorded data.

SHould I use another program to play the show back? Winamp, WinTV, etc.

Put gbpvr in windowed mode hit playback and look at task manager. This will tell you what is hogging your system. The spec of your machine looks OK. You are running 512MB of mem or more?

Thanks I'll try Task Manager. Running 512K of PC3200 memory.

I know Win2000 (Hauppauge app) is running in the task bar so maybe a memory problem or conflict.

Task Manager shows system idle process running 95% or more so not sure what problem is.

OK so its not cpu bound. How much memory is left when gbpvr is playing a file?

Try disabling almost everything you can (using task manager) and still run windows/GB, and see if it helps. Also, does that mean your sys partition is only 30GB? How much free space there after os, apps, etc? Doesn't sound like a lot of free space for virtual mem. Even if you have the space, it's very little room for it to use, like making you excersise in a hallway. You may have the space, but you can't use the space well.

Also see if you have other settings on for your playback. If it's doing deinterlacing, sharpening, etc, it needs to do all that before playing, and that will slow up jumps.

I had the same problem and changed two settings in GB-PVR and it fixed it.

On the MISC page I changed:

Deselect USE LIVE PREVIEW MODE IF POSSIBLE

Change BDA multiplexer to InterVideo


I'm using a Plextor ConvertX and a P4 1.6Ghz processor 512Mb Ram and a lot of HD

For the other post, the windows partition is only 20 GB with 12 GB lerft. Should I change the virtual memory to the 130 GB partition?
