On the MVP, when pressing skip forward / backward or resume on recorded mpg-files, the TV goes black and the log files gives the following errors:

25-8-2005 21:00:32.281 ERROR [38] Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
25-8-2005 21:00:32.281 ERROR [38] at q.a(Double A_0)
at ah.a(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at ah.b(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at q.a(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at q.aj()

I am using GBPVR 93.10; new dongle.bin is loaded into the MVP; MVPMedia service is disabled, MVPMediaSvc service is enable othwise the MVP doesn't connect to GBPVR. Installed it all on a newly installed system: only WinXP some drivers, Hauppauge MVP software and GBPVR

When skipping & resuming on the PC, all works fine; but doing the same on the MVP fails.

Anyone any clues?

You cant do that. This means its control messages are going to the GB-PVR software but media related packets are going to the Hauppauge software. You're never going to get it to work correctly like this. You need to stop both Hauppauge services.

hmm, that's going to be hard. It is the only way it get the MVP connected to GBPVR. The PC running GBPVR has a wired connection to the MVP (with no DHCP-server) and a wireless network for access to internet. When both MVPMedia services are disabled, I can't get the MVP connected to the PC: not loading dongle.bin after poweron or "Failed to locate GUI server" after switching on when dongle.bin is already loaded.

Hi Sub,

I installed a 3rd party DHCP-server on my system and both MVPMedia services are disabled. However, I got from the rain into the drip.

after unplugging the MVP and plugging it again into the power supply: it starts up and dongle.bin is send to the MVP. The MVP is granted an IP-address from the newly installed DHCP-server.

Then, it takes an awfull lot of time (3 minutes 10 seconds), before the GBPVR-screen is presented on the MVP. Playing any MPEG-file then results in a black tv-screen.

After disabling the DHCP-server, enabling MVPMediaSvc and powerup the MVP, the GBPVR-screen is quick as before (max 5 seconds) and MPEGs are played fine (except skip / resume).

Reverting back to DHCP and no MVPMediaSvc slows down the initial GBPVR-screen and no MPEG playback.

Any clues?

That's true.
I solved it by luck.

1. Start MediaMVP.
2. Stop MVPMediaSvc
3. Stop/Start MediaMVP (will not starting due to missing MVPMediaSvc)
4. Start MVPMediaSvc
5. Stop/Start MediaMVP

On my MediaMVP everything will be OK until the next POWEROFF.

I hopefully it will help you.

If you leave 'MVPMediaSvc' running, GB-PVR will crash or misbehave when you try to do anything video related.

My be, but on my system it works.
After first installation I had no problems for some days but I think after a restart of my MediaMVP (Power OFF/ON) I got the message.
I have tried all what i guess including a new installation of GBPVR without a result until I did the steps descibed above.

My be you are right. I've it also turned off now but for POWERON it's a need to have this service ON otherwise MediaMVP does't get a connection.

In my opinion it's a mayor problem that after the first installation of Hauppauge's software there is no way to uninstall the software from PC and MediaMVP completely.
I think each new installation will find some parts of older versions and that makes trouble.
For example I can install Hauppauges MediaMVP software what version ever I allways have stops if I use skip buttons and I never see the gauge for volume or video.
That was the reason why I switched to GBPVR.
Fortunately it works much better then the original software.

are u using a crossover cable?

we using gbpvr w/ mvp and crossover cable, gbpvr can't be loaded unless huappage services are running. the solution is to have a dhcp server running (tftpd32) as well as uninstall all hauppage software. when u uninstall hauppage software, they still leave two mvp services enteries in the registry. u have to manually delete them to make everything work. try that.

even if u're not using crossover cable, try this:
=============
So finally figured it out....

For some reason, when u install the hauppage software on and u uninstall, it doesn't remove the services from the registry.

So the Services.msc command will still the two mvp enteries no matter what u do.

You have to manually delete the entries from the registry.

In command prompt, type: sc delete MVPMediaSvc

then do it again by typing: sc delete MVPMedia

I did that for both of the mvp services and it now works fine w/ tftpd32.

=============

then reboot/unplug.
