I am wondering if anyone might be able to suggest to me a tv tuner card for my HTPC.
I have a Freeview aerial so believe I am looking to put in a DVB-T2 card and can only find two contenders (im looking for at least two tuners), and was wondering if anyone had any comments or suggestions on these and\or other cards i may not know about. The two cards I am looking at are TBS 6285 and Hauppauge WinTV HVR 2200.
Lastly, I wonder if anyone knows how recording works with these cards if the pc is off ? Does the PC automatically wake\shut down for the recording ?
I've started using NPVR instead of MediaPortal but I cannot get AcamD to work as it does with MediaPortal, it just will not decode some channels which I am hoping is just a setting somewhere (like read PMT file which NPVR needs but MePo does not)
I use AcamD 0.6.2.0 connecting to NewCS without any issues on MediaPortal and NPVR it only works for some channels.
It appears that MediaPortal can resolve the name of the channel from the stream but NPVR does not and this must be causing the issues, this is from AcamD chcahe.ini:
MediaPortal = 7D5651ED=0105,0F2E,0963,00000000,0504,00C0,History HD
I have tried disabling the chcahe.ini file so it does not use it but this makes no difference.
If it helps I can confirm when the recording service is running I do not see the acamd monitor windows even though it is set to show at startup and the service can interact with the desktop (it is installed as admin as that is the only use on the server so it has full rights) but any setting in the acamd.ini does work (if I am updating the EPG I then get the multidec icon and the acamd monitor actually launches) so I know it is working and accepting the options I provide in the ini file.
Any help would be great as I am missing out on too much Pawn Stars and Storage Wars haha
I used to use WinTV as it came with the Hauppauge tuner card I have. Used it for years until this past winter, I switched to NPVR. Got it up and running a few months ago, and really like it. It's so much better, intuitive to use etc. I have been using 3.1.1 until today, since by random chance I saw there was a new version. I installed 3.2.9.
Anyway, suddenly in the past week or so (it predates the upgrade to 3.2.9), I've lost all the onscreen stuff, like the progress bar and info bar at the bottom of the screen. If I move the mouse during playback of a recording, or live tv, nothing. I do see the video and get the sound, just not the info and progress bars.
I noticed this when I recorded the show about Coldplay on NBC. When I went to play it, I only heard audio and saw no video. I tried playing the ts file with MPC-HC and the video is there, so the recording is ok, so I'm guessing it must have something to do with the renderer/decoder. This used to be set to EVR, but now in order to have video I set it to Overlay.
I have attached the logs and a screenshot of the Decoders screen. I am using XP.
Occasionally I get recordings where the timeline is corrupt in that when you start playback, the start position is correct and the time position shown tracks the amount of time playing but the end of recording time shows zeros.
This in itself insn't a problem...that is until the wife tries to jump forward (e.g. to skip adverts)..... at which point NPVR hangs with an windows error message and has to be killed with task manager. Whilst if you notice the end of file time is zeros, you can avoid the hang by not trying to jump, this is a pain and a frequent inconvenience (so I'm told).
Apparently me getting dragged in to use task manager is all my fault anyway for not sorting the bl**dy problem out
Is there any way Sub the error handling could be improved so it doesn't hang when the timeline is corrupt? I'd send you a sample file but they're typically >500mb.
Hi, I am just wondering if there is any way so far to easily include the year of release in the filename. This to to set apart movies that have similar or common names, but different release years.
So perhaps there might be some way I could take the existing format, which by the way I really like:
Movie Name_YYYYMMDD_HHMMHHMM
and do something like this:
Movie Name (YYYY)_YYYYMMDD_HHMMHHMM
(where "(YYYY)" = year of release, or first four digits of XML "original_air_date")
So far I have discovered <StoreSeparateMetadataXml> and tried setting it to "true". That at least gives me a way to get at the XML "description" after the files have been relocated and the entries removed from the database, as I find them useful.
I could presumably also do the same with the year, but it would be even better just to have it in the filename.

Prior to XBMC hanging. Not sure if this is NPVR or XBMC issue (the IP address is the NPVR server, although there's no TV in use at the time), so just starting the investigation here. Any thoughts?
I know it's odd to post questions about Media Companion here, but I've recently started using it, have some questions, visited their forum and don't quite know how to get around there since I don't use XBMC. I've pretty much got the Movies part figured out but I don't understand some of the TV actions. I don't understand the Roots setting. All of my TV shows are downloaded by SB to a singe drive (G:\TV). On that drive there are multiple TV folders, some with one episode, some with several I just haven't gotten around to viewing yet. Would those go on the Root folders or the Separate folder? I've got them all on the Separate folder now. On TV/Main Browser, some of the shows are listed, some are grayed and some aren't showing although if you click on the right spot you'll see an episode screen on the right. Most of the time that screen has the right art but the wrong title. I've tried changing it several times and then exiting and when I come back the titles are once again unavailable and are misnamed. If I could get that explained it would solve a lot of problems.
Also, I notice they mention a SB script on their forum page for doing some automation. Is anyone using that and if so could you tell me how to implement it?
The MC TV/Help is nonexistent. Any help or a link to someplace that explains this better will be appreciated.
