Hauppauge PCTV 801e SE tuner problem
Posted by: snagglewest - 2012-06-28, 01:23 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I just picked up a Hauppauge PCTV HD Stick 801e SE USB tuner to replace a HVR-980 analog tuner that's on it's last legs. I pulled the 980 and stuck the 801 in, but it's giving me fits and a search of the archives didn't turn up an answer, so here goes:

The 801 tuner does both digital & analog and it works fine in the OEM "TVCenter" software picking up all my digital and analog channels. NPVR sees it too, but only as a digital device and lists it as:

ATSC "DiBcom BDA Digital Tuner (Dev1 Path0)"
QAM "DiBcom BDA Digital Tuner (Dev1 Path0)"
DVB-C "DiBcom BDA Digital Tuner (Dev1 Path1)"

It scanned QAM fine and found all my digital channels. The problem is it doesn’t see the analog side which I suspect means I need to add it to the AnalogDevices.xml. I played around with the AnalogDevices.xml file, but I didn't have a clue what I was doing, so I can't get it working. Can someone point me in the right direction?

npvr.db3 journal file constantly created and destroyed
Posted by: cncb - 2012-06-27, 08:06 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (15)

I was looking at the NPVR data directory in Windows Explorer and noticed that a journal file for the database is created and destroyed every few seconds. The recording service is running but no recordings or playback are taking place. It seems like this will cause unnecessary activity on the SSD in my new server that I'm about to move to. Is there a reason why all these database operations are attempted (doesn't ever write to the database but creates the journal file anyways)?

A key to return to fullscreen video.
Posted by: JP23 - 2012-06-27, 03:26 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (6)

Hi,

If I go into Videos, and navigate down a few folders to find an item, and then start it playing, it plays as inset video, while still displaying the list of items in that directory. To get to fullscreen video, I find that I first have to go back to the main menu, which can involve a few steps if you are several directories deep. This can be quite annoying if you want to play something else from the same folder afterwards, as you have to navigate down to it again, and then go back out to the main menu once again to get fullscreen video.

Could we have a key assigned that would take you straight to fullscreen video, if there's something playing, from anywhere in any of the menus?

Or am I doing it wrong?

UK - BBC Olympic HD streams via satellite
Posted by: imilne - 2012-06-27, 12:17 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

All 24 HD streams are now available.

NPVR tuned them all in with the settings attached, although not every one played. Perhaps some are not actually broadcasting yet.

Code:
[SATTYPE] 1=28.2 2=BBC OLYMPICS (28.2E) [DVB] 0=6 1=11914,H,29500,34,69 2=12129,V,29500,34,69 3=12305,H,29500,34,69 4=12402,V,29500,34,69 5=12422,H,29500,34,69 6=12441,V,29500,34,69

I wasn't 100% sure what DVB-S2 parameters to use, but I just flung in the (69) that the other BBC HD channels use and it seems happy enough.

Can NPVR make use of NMT with internal HD?
Posted by: dongna - 2012-06-26, 07:31 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (3)

Title pretty much says it all... in shopping for a used NMT, I find some are available with internal hard drives. Is there any benefit to getting one with an internal HD for use with NPVR?

  Hauppauge 950Q with QAM
Posted by: brianw - 2012-06-26, 06:10 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

Hauppauge 950Q

My eventual goal is to probably use GBPVR, but it's no longer supported and I realize in terms of troubleshooting I should probably walk before I run, so I went and installed NPVR and like I figured, this device wouldn't work with that either. I only use QAM, and I don't get ATSC signals at all. I also want to eventually get analog capturing working, but I'll leave that for sometime down the road.

It's also worth noting that I have a seperate PC using an internal card with GBPVR and QAM fully working, so I might be able to refer back to that for any info about QAM channel frequencies. And I also had success using GBPVR for years with a Kworld QAM usb device that wasn't even officially supported.

On this PC I'm using Windows XP. NPVR installed fine, but when I select the device with QAM and try to scan, I get no results. I completed the full scan. When I tried it with GBPVR, I had constant issues with crashing and freezing, which has never happened to me before. I think I saw other posts with similar things mentioned using this device. On at least one of the scans with GBPVR, the scan froze on a certain channel, and I know I read similar posts of freezing from others.

One note is, even though I bought the 950Q brand new, I bought it as part of a software package, and therefore it didn't come with the original installation/software disc. Even on the label of the tuner's box list of contents, it mentioned everything else (antenna, quick install guide, a/v cable, extension cable, tuner), but no software CD. I installed the driver from the website and that seemed ok, but I'm not sure if it's a problem that I don't have the original software. Though I know it would be a problem with analog capturing, but I'm hoping there will be a way around that.

Anyway, any help or info on where to go from here to get this device working or a place to start would be really appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.

I attached the NPVR log in a zip file (there was also an NRecord log which I didn't include), hopefully I'm doing everything right. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

  Rendering jitter
Posted by: bdgillard - 2012-06-25, 07:18 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

I have recently switched from media portal to NPVR, but I am having problems with jitter on horizontal movement, which can best be seen looking at the news crawler on Sky News, it moves in a series of jerks rather than a smooth progression.I tried different renderers (EVR,VMR7,VMR9), and several different video codecs, it is the same in both HD and SD. I,m using AMD HD4200 integrated graphics with Windows 7 home premuim 64bit and An SSD,feeding the TV via the HDMI port I have tried both 1080i and 1080p, the tv resolution is 1920x1080 Can anyone help?
Nextpvr is much more stable than Media Portal, but this jitter is stopping me using it at the moment.

  Problem switching to new computer
Posted by: ppijoseph - 2012-06-25, 05:46 PM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (3)

Hi, NDroid worked fine on my old machine, but I have moved NPVR to a new computer that is faster. NPVR is working fine, NDROID service installs without error, but Android client hangs up upon first launch on both my Motorola Phone (2.3) and Acer Tablet (4.0). I get no error message whatsoever, just the spinning blue lines that keep going and going. I am not seeing the downloading message.

I have spent hours downloading, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc but to no avail - always the same message. I have also specifically opened ports 8790 and 8791 on both windows firewall and on my router (though I am presently trying to get the app to work on LAN before trying remote access).

Any new ideas are appreciated because I am at the end of my rope.
