I have a test setup of NextPVR as I'm looking at getting rid of my Sage TV and returning to the fold . I used to run NVPR with Hauppauge MediaMVP devices many years ago. I'm currently using Sage HD300s as remote devices that connect via the network and have an HDMI output, but they are slowly dying and keep having to be powered off and on again. SageTV is mainly used for watching and recording DVB-S2 Freesat channels on Astra 28.2. The priority is to have remote access for the TVs around the house similar to the HD300s.
I have been busy catching up on the forums and I seem to have a few options:
A Windows PC client, which seem a bit over the top.
Android client which could run on an Amazon Fire TV or Google Chromecast device - I'm not sure if this is possible/supported.
As I already have Emby running on my Google Chromecasts, I could use use the plug-in for it. But my impression is that this is not an optimal solution and is not native NextPVR software.
And finally, use the Apple TV client. The reason for my hesitation is that I don't currently have an Apple TV device to test it, and I would need to buy at least four if I decide to move.
As the Apple TV client seems to be an official NextPVR product, I'm inclined to go with it despite the extra cost.
My priority is a stable system for maximum partner approval factor, so I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on what I should do.
Attempting to run NextPVR on a Proxmox hosted Windows-11 VM.

Have a fast new machine I got for a Homelab.
Wondered if I could run NextPVR on it virtualized.
First did true bare metal install of Windows 11, along with a Colossus 2 card. and a USB Dual DVB-T dongle on the new machine.
Got everythihg up and running, IR Blasting.. all working good with both tuners.
I migrated the user configuration to a Windows 11 VM under Proxmox.
I nuked all the devices, and rescanned, and it found the Colossus 2 card, and the USB DVB-T tuners.
I can scan and find the DVB-T channels, and import and configure my STB channels, and IR blasting is working.
However, I get error 'Failed to start requested stream' when trying to watch TV channels in the Web Interface of NextPVR.
Wondering if this is a 'mission impossible' type error thru running in a virtual environment?
Just thought I'd check in, before coming to the ' nah, don't work verdict, back to bare metal'

I have just installed MX Linux on an old PC. It is the sole OS on the system and I have not installed any other packages beyond the updates it wanted to do. I have tried unsuccessfully to install NextPVR. I'm new to Linux as wondering if any had any advice. I have attached the log.
After using various PVRs I'm now going to move to a PC solution. (Free to air, Australia). I inherited an old media PC that originally had Windows 7 on it. I'm going to install Linux on it. The purpose is to record terrestrial TV and then play back those files. Is the only software I need NextPVR? Also, does NextPVR allow me to upload and then play MKV or MP4 files?

I had NextPVR working nicely for a week or two (I'm a new user, in the UK). I'm recording on my laptop and have an August DVB-210 tuner plugged into a USB port, which is connected via a nice new cable to our socket that connects to the aerial on the roof.
I discovered today that the last few programs that recorded had no proper picture. Lots of green, or mashed up pixels that didn't refresh. When going to the channel page that would normally show you what programs were on each channel right now, for watching live, some of the channels didn't show the current program names. I wondered if things weren't plugged in correctly anymore, but everything seemed OK.
I've now been on a fun few hours discovering that I could no longer watch live TV or record at all. Getting errors like Streaming failed (transcoder exited). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the August tuner drivers, and NextPVR, and had multiple blue screen of death reboots in amongst it.
I still can't view live TV. The scheduler faithfully tried to start recording several programs in amongst this, none of which were successful (obviously!). So I then decided to delete all the channels related to my tuner, and rescan. Several times I got a blue screen of death on clicking the button to scan for channels. When it didn't crash, I walked off for half an hour and came back, but it didn't find any channels.
What's the odds it's an issue with the TV tuner thing (or its drivers)? I'm not sure what to try next. I'm not sure my sister would let me try it out on her laptop.
I did attempt to copy and paste a url into the IPTV device (which was not set up at all previously) and got nowhere with it as I had no idea what I was doing. The url was from https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=64944 . I've lost track of what went wrong first, but I'm 95% sure that the images stopped recording (or being received) correctly before I tried to get creative. I only have very recent logs to attach though.
I successfully got NPVR on my new Windows 11 computer, but haven't really used this great program for months as my 10-year old Win 7 machine had "overheat" issues.
I use zap2it and then tell manually NPVR to update - I think it reads the xml file then checks channels by frequency? I use OTA as source.
The Guide looked right at first glance, but it isn't - it is off by one hour. Example - 60 Minutes on Sunday night is at 6 PM, but the Guide has it at 5 PM. Everything in TV Guide on NPVR is off by an hour, one hour earlier than it actually is. ??? I am in US Mountain Time Zone with Daylight Savings Time.
When I look at Zap2it.com - the times are right - example, 60 Min is at 6 PM. So I seem to have that set right, and it used to work fine.
My computer clock settings are correct - time zone and Daylight = proper time on the clock in the system tray.
I looked at the xmltv.xml file in Firefox, but I can barely make sense of it, much less analyze how NextPVR uses it. I am essentially .xml illiterate - moving around in that huge file is very slow.
I am trying to attach that file, but it doesn't seem to be working. Whether I drag it over, or click and then browse, it seems to put the 9.2 Meg file there momentarily but then puts a red X on it. Maybe NextPVR is using it as I am recording a test. I'll have to wait until that finishes and try again. Later - Recording is done, but I still get the red X. Guess I need help with that first! I have no idea why it isn't working. Should be simple!
I'll post this, then see if I can open it and then post the .xml file.
I'm a new user of NextPVR, having recently bought my first TV tuner (which I plug into a USB port in my laptop).
I'm chuffed that I've finally stopped my laptop going to sleep, so programs are successfully recording. I can move them to my external hard drive and still play them back on various devices in the house using Kodi. Life is good!
There's a TV channel in the UK which I'd like to be able to record programs from, but I assume I can't. It's Together TV. Until recently it appeared to be broadcast as a normal Freeview channel. Now it seems that it still has a published schedule, but if you tune into Freeview channel 83 with an old-school Freeview TV, or my TV tuner/laptop, you can't watch it.
It apparently only works on Smart TVs now, when they're connected to the internet.
My laptop is connected to the internet while it's recording, but (unless there's a setting I'm missing) this hasn't helped, and I can't watch it as if it's still a normal broadcast channel, and I can't record programs using NextPVR. Any suggestions?
[I can watch on demand via their website/Android app, etc, but none of that's designed for recording/saving.]
Hello! I'm Metroid! I have a problem with PlutoTV Extra Streaming.
PlutoTV Extra plays fine without freezing, but every time when it goes to the commercials, it messes up. The TV show still plays, but there's no audio. That's because a commercial plays here. Is there's a way to fix this? Thanks! This started a couple of months ago.
as you might have seen in some other posts here, I switched to NextPVR and wanted to share my experience with you
and maybe give some suggestions for further development. Happy to test any betas if you like or providing some kind
of user stories for features if you like.
I have a quite old Asrock E350M1 system with 8GB memory and with Digital Devices quad tuner DVB-C/DVB-T PCIe card.
The system is running as a server Openmedivault. I used docker before with TVHeadend and MrMC and TVHClient on
Apple TV for viewing. MrMC was forgetting his PVR settings every two days and TVHeadend implements skipping in an
awful way (buttons increase/decrease playback speed). This was especially annoying, as I use Logitech Harmony as a
remote to control all devices, I know it works much better with original remotes (stop playback and scrub). Docker file
is also attached.
I should mention that I am not able to use the we client, as the system is too slow to transcode anything. I played around
with KODI on my Mac and it sends direct stream video, but Audio is still transcoded for unknown reasons.
Suggestion: Allow transcoding to be switched off transparently (current options are not so clear) for video and audio,
either in general (quick solution) or for different clients (I know that's a lot of work. Seen that in jellyfish).
Having seen the client in the AppStore, I install the original docker nextpvr/nextpvr_amd64 and it worked pretty quickly.
First issue was I did not find my provider in the list for scanning, but it found all channels also by using de-Berlin. If you
feel more comfortable, you find attached a de-WillyTel with the major frequencies in it (please note that one will be
sufficient, as they somehow send the other frequencies to scan on each bouquet).
Suggestion: Include provided de-WillyTel in /usr/share/dvb/dvb-c
Suggestion: When doing a channels scan, remember all the channels and offer a possibility to add or deselect channels
afterwards without to repeat the whole scan, which took 20 minutes in my case.
Problem: When switching web user interface to German, the entries on the screen (Safari and Chrome) show up with squared
brackets around, e.g. Channels menu entry shows like [Kanäle]. No change when reloading or deleting caches. Really every
German entry is in square brackets.
In the next step I wondered why some channels got EPG information through DVB-C and some not. A bit later, I bought
the client App and realized that it also will not playback these channels. That was when I got into the docker and saw that
there is a configuration file for each adapter and I looked into it, finding out that in these cases, where the EPG wouldn't
load and there was no playback possible, the frequencies and symbol rates look weird.
Problem: Here the original, buggy entry of Das Erste HD:
The buggy frequency is almost everywhere 4294967293, sometimes 4294967295. The wrong symbol rate almost
everywhere 6900033, sometimes 6899978.
I was able to change the frequencies and symbol rate of the selected channels manually by using the frequency table
of WillyTel, knowing that the symbol rate is always 6900000 Hz. All other entries where ok. I provided the original scan
result and a corrected version. Please note I only corrected the faulty channels of the 14 I selected for use.
Problem: when correcting the problems, I accidentally forgot one [ in front of a channel entry. The system was not
telling me that and the logs a a bit crowded, this is hard to find. As a result I wondered why reading the EPG will be
finished in 1 second with 0 entries read. Hard to track down such a problem. Even if maybe chosen by design, sometimes
a modal would be helpful if there is such a problem. On the other hand the basic idea might be: it works, why to bother
someone :-).
So I used the client for the first time. When using Docker, the client will somehow offer server addresses that are not
the ones of the host network. But I was able to configure that manually.
Suggestion: Put an entry in Configuration to specify a server and store this information.
Suggestion: User Interface of client is only available in English, I would be happy to translate if you provide me with
a resource file.
In the next step, I created another docker with easyepg-lite and wanted to set all channels to this EPG instead of the
one from DVB-C. I used auto map and the table looked fine. Some channels did not map automatically, but I was able
to do that manually. Names where a bit different. Some channel icons where wrong. This was due to the fact that several
Graph files where present in the /config/media/channels folder and NextTVR was not selecting the one from the xml file.
Problem: It was when I noticed that the mapping was not working correctly. Even if auto mapping table looked good,
the entries where not stored. I had to manually call the auto mapped entries and selected the xml file and the entry.
Maybe this was due to the fact I had first only copied the xml file into /config, afterwards bind-mounting /config/epg
and the auto mapping used the first xml file, which I then removed from the configuration, I was not able to verify that.
Then I created some automatic recordings and I really love that I can record the news (Tagesschau) every day at a
certain time slot (20:00) as it will be broadcasted several times a day. This feature is brilliant, not even Sky receivers
are able to do that.
Coming back to the AppleTV client: it is pretty simple but does what it should do. It works with my Logitech remote. When
using the left / right it will skip -30" / +1' and it works so quick I can quickly jump over something or find the right place.
While writing, I notice I haven't tried the fwd/fbwd keys. I tried the original remote though and it works pretty much the
same, including the stop/swipe thing.
Suggestion: in Kodi, you can select from a kind of list with selections in front what left/right will skip, e.g. for right:
o +5" o +15" o +30" o +1min o +10 min o +30 min and you select one or more. It would then use the first selected
for one quick press, the second selected for two quick presses etc.
Suggestion: in any case (when you change something here) please don't forget the people that don't use the original
remote that uses swipe gestures.
All in all it took a day or two to set up everything, but it looks amazing and it does what I want for the the very first time.
And it does it in a way that I put in into production. Okay, only one user but she is a very critical one in there of UI/UX :-).

Hi all, just a simple question…I have NextPVR running on a RPi and feeding Emby which is running on a Windows server. When I stream through Emby once everything’s set up and configured properly, is it streaming from the source directly to my Emby app, or through the NextPVR first?
Sorry I know this is probably a basic question. The pi is on an always on VPN and the windows box isn’t, so I’m just wondering if the actual video is streaming through the vpn.
